1800

When Thomas Jefferson was elected president in 1800, Aaron Burr became vice-president.

1801

In 1801 he managed to secure $10,000 from a group of investors to fund the launch of the New York Evening Post.

1804

Alexander Hamilton (1755/7–1804) rose from an impoverished upbringing to become one of the founding fathers of America.

1836

He stood trial for treason, but was acquitted, and died in 1836, aged 80 and unlamented.

1858

The Mount Vernon Ladies Association has been maintaining the Mount Vernon Estate since they acquired it from the Washington family in 1858.

1859

The Madison Papers consist of approximately 12,000 items, spanning the period 1723-1859, captured in some 37,714 digital images.

1920

The Rogal Family had begun selling insurance in Pittsburgh early in the 1920s.

1940

1950

First held in 1950, Class & Charter Day is a convocation held on the last day of spring classes.

1960

By his effort, Hamilton became the world leader in sample handling for the field of chromatography and in 1960 the fledgling company outgrew the family garage, proudly moving into its first of many rental facilities.

1968

In 1968, Clark Hamilton founded an identical company in Bonaduz, Switzerland to enable production of these syringes for the European scientific community.

1970

Today Hamilton Bonaduz AG continues to manufacture, design, and create new products in concert with Hamilton Company in the United States In 1970 the company in Whittier, California was relocated to Reno, Nevada where it remains today.

1972

In 1972, a financial services company purchased Rogal Co., headed by Alvin Rogal, and eight other agencies, mainly based in the southeastern part of the country.

1974

Starting in 1974 the management was turned over to Steve Hamilton, and with the support of his brothers, continues to drive the companies to this day.

1982

1982 Hilb, Rogal and Hamilton Co. is founded by three insurance executives.

1985

By 1985, HRH revenues, primarily from commissions, had reached $25.4 million.

1986

The Tax Reform Act of 1986, which resulted in double taxation on cash purchases of agencies prompted HRH to rethink its combination cash and stock acquisition transactions.

1987

Based on its 1987 revenues of $36.1 million, the company held the number 12 spot among the nation's largest insurance agencies.

1988

From January through October 1988, HRH acquired 14 United States insurance agencies: nine in Texas, two in Virginia, and one each in Florida, Georgia, and Maryland.

1989

Revenue in 1989 topped $74 million.

1990

By October 1990, the company operated 40 offices in 15 states and the District of Columbia.

Believing its stock was undervalued, HRH began a stock repurchasing plan in 1990.

1990 The company begins looking to foreign markets for business.

1993

In early 1993 HRH was planning a secondary offering to fuel the flow of more independent agencies into its fold.

1995

HRH had purchased more than 140 agencies by late 1995.

1996

1996 The company establishes a regional framework for its agencies.

1997

HRH, which acted as an intermediary between midsize businesses and the insurance underwriters, experienced a spike in revenue and earnings and was rewarded with a corresponding rise in its price per share in 1997.

2000

The top ten insurance broker recorded revenues of $262.1 million in 2000.

2000 The company ranks 80th on the Forbes list of the country's best 200 companies.

2001

HRH embarked on expansion in the Midwest in the summer of 2001.

2004

Author Ron Chernow discusses his biography of Alexander Hamilton at the 2004 National Book Festival.

2005

Robert B. Lockhart, HRH president and COO and former head of the Hartford office and Northeast region, resigned in May 2005.

2005 The company settles a business practices suit for $30 million.

2013

Though Hamilton was undoubtedly a key figure in shaping America and its constitution, and the country’s financial system owes him a huge debt of gratitude, he was not that well remembered in America prior to the hit musical which opened in New York in 2015.

He gained new acclaim in 2015 with the Broadway production Hamilton, a Tony Award-winning musical about his inspiring rise to prominence.

2016

However, the currency decisions were taking place at the same time as Hamilton the musical was becoming a monster hit. Therefore, in 2016 it was announced that he would remain where he had been and that a woman from American history would appear on the $20 bill instead (bad news for president Andrew Jackson).
