Since 1950, Hampton Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has provided best in class, patient-centered healthcare to residents in Hampton County and the surrounding areas.
In 1995, Hampton County Council converted the hospital to a South Carolina Public Benefit, not-for-profit hospital (a 501(c)3 corporation) and turned the governance over to a community based voluntary board of directors.

Fort Monroe served as an active United States Army installation until September 15, 2011.
In March 2018, the Hampton Roads Regional Jail celebrated its twentieth anniversary of providing services to its member cities.
HRMC is a 32-bed, not-for-profit community hospital affiliated with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) as of May 2019.
