1848

In Germany, the history of the poster was less sweeping at that time, as political posters were considerably restricted by the authorities and were partly banned altogether after 1848.

1854

In 1854, Ernst Liftfass was granted the right to place posters in public by a contract he concluded with the Berlin police commissioner.

1858

In 1858, he received his first prominent poster commission: the announcement of the famous opera “Orpheus in the Underworld”.

1866

In 1866, Chéret opened his own lithographic institute.

1869

1869- George Rowell- sold advertisers blocks in newspapers.

1875

In 1875, William Hatch moved his family to Nashville where, four years later, Charles and Herbert founded CR and HH Hatch.

1879

Hatch entered into business as a publisher, and following his death in 1879 the Reverend's two sons took over the family business.

1891

The first poster to create a “fine art” buzz was the Moulin Rouge poster of 1891 designed by artist, Toulouse-Lautrec.

1894

The first “Art Nouveau” masterpiece was designed in 1894 by a Czech named Alphonse Mucha who worked in Paris.

1897

1901

Art Nouveau and Belle Epoque dominated Paris until about 1901.

1904

Reform at the Turn of the 20th Century Ladies' Home Journal in 1904 runs articles on advertising and patent medicine fraud.

1905

1905- advertising clubs help to create the Better Business Bureau.

Poster style, or “Plakatstil,” was born in 1905 by Berlin artist, Lucien Bernhard and by Munich artist, Ludwig Hohlwein.

1913

In 1913, Germany ranked second behind the USA in terms of world industrial production and second behind Great Britain in terms of world trade.

1920

1920's - an increase in trucking allows chain stores to develop.

In the West, the variety of posters followed the design of the 1920s.

1921

In 1921, Will T. Hatch continued the family tradition.

1926

1926- NBC established the 1st radio network with six stations.

1939

With the outbreak of the war in 1939, the appearance of the poster also became brutal.

1941

1941- "With 7,500 TV sets in New York City, NBC begins telecasting July 1.

1952

During this time, as Charles's son William took over the business until his death in 1952, Hatch Show Print captured the magic of country music.

1983

The first pure poster auction took place in 1983 in Munich.

1986

Recognizing Hatch's unique history, Nashville's Grand Ole Opry stepped in to acquire the shop in 1986.

1988

1988- Nike, "Just do it" campaign by Wieden & Kennedy begins.

1990

Goodrum, C and Dalrymple, H (1990) Advertising in America : The First 200 Years.

1992

Gaylord was directly responsible for the generous donation of Hatch Show Print to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in 1992.

1993

1993- Advertising on the Internet begins.

1994
