Healthfield Operating Group, Inc company history timeline

1871

The first formal qualification in public health was the Diploma in State Medicine that was instituted in 1871 by Trinity College in Dublin.

1919

Born in 1919 he grew up in Yonkers just north of New York City.

1925

As an example, Hueppe (1925) saw the development of public health more or less as a continuum that originated in antiquity.

1948

The skill set however was different from that required in the traditional public health role, and the existing professional organizations were not well fitted to service the future requirements of this new mixture of professional roles. It was the inception of the National Health Service (NHS) across the UK in 1948 that created different strands of medical engagement with population health issues.

1971

In 1971 he became involved in home healthcare.

1985

With the 1985 hiring of Robert Fusco, who would go on to become president of the unit, Olsten Home Health Care began to show dramatic improvements.

1990

By 1990 Olsten Home Health Care had 75 offices and was a profitable $100 million business.

1992

Communities adopt different conceptions of health risk (Beck, 1992), and these notions of risk may be shaped by mass media representation of events.

The Lifetime acquisition brought with it 400 offices and boosted Olsten Healthcare's revenues from $338 million in 1992 to $1.2 billion.

1993

1993 Lifetime Corporation is acquired.

1994

Our company was founded in 1994 as a single home health agency in small-town America, with a mission to serve the neediest and most vulnerable members of the community.

Concurrent with the sale, Blechschmidt turned over the CEO and chairmanship posts to Ronald A. Malone, who had been with the company since 1994, serving as president of Olsten Staffing Services before it was divested.

1995

In 1995 Olsten Healthcare launched CareCentrix to serve as an ancillary care benefit manager for insurers and government-related managed care payers.

In 1995 it settled similar claims with the state of California, and continued to be under investigation by the New Mexico attorney general.

1996

In mid-1996, efforts by the Secretary of Health and Human Services in the USA brought together leaders of public health with representatives of the AMA and academic medical centers to try to find areas of common interest and willingness to promote the health of the population.

1997

Olsten Healthcare elected to settle the matter by agreeing to pay $4.5 million in October 1997.

1998

While the federal probe continued, Olsten Healthcare bought back the business for $34 million in 1998.

1999

Falling profits and a slumping stock price led to a management shakeup at Olsten Corp. in early 1999.

2000

A month later, in October 2000, he sold 81 percent of the Canadian staffing unit to Bayshore Health Group.

For the year 2000 the company lost $104.2 million, but this was the result of writing off $119 million in accounts receivable.

2001

These obstacles have previously been highlighted as the critical gaps in need of solution (Gray, 2001). Even when the findings are timely, for policy purposes, policy makers may not know how best to use the information.

While revenues were essentially flat in 2001, totaling $1.38 million, the company recorded net income of $21 million in 2001.

Policy making, by its nature, requires making choices that are not value free or reducible to technical inputs (Rodwin, 2001).

2004

Revenues continued to grow in 2004 to $846 million.

2006

Gentiva branched into the hospice field in 2006 with the $454 million cash and stock acquisition of Atlanta-based Healthfield Group.

2008

By 2008, nearly 70 percent of households in developing countries consumed adequately iodized salt.

2010

An explosion on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 led to enormous ecological and economic damage as well as loss of life.

2013

Iodine-deficiency disorders (IDDs) remain a widespread condition, estimated to have affected 2 billion people worldwide in 2013.

Opposition to fluoridation of community water supplies is widespread, and effective lobbying internationally has slowed but has not stopped progress (see Chapter 6). Despite the life-saving value of immunization, opposition still exists in 2013 and harms public health protection.

2015

Similarly, although the health issues associated with obesity and poor nutrition are well recognized, evidence-informed policy responses are relatively rare and systematic multisectoral approaches are absent (Sisnowski, 2015).

2017

Jana Sisnowski, Jackie M. Street, in International Encyclopedia of Public Health (Second Edition), 2017

2020

By 2020 that number was expected to grow by more than 50 percent to 53.7 million.
