Schedule may be able to potentially flex to work 10:30am-11pm on the weekend rotation and earn an additional day off during the week within that pay period. What you'll do at DBH:
This position focuses on supporting adults in a residential setting to develop essential independent living and social skills. The staff member will work directly with assigned consumers, implementing personal and behavior plans and helping with skills such as hygiene, medication management, food preparation, budgeting, and social interactions. The role involves maintaining a safe and supportive environment, de-escalating crises, modeling professional behavior, and transporting consumers to appointments as necessary. Staff will work closely with team members to develop individualized service plans, document progress, and maintain the facility's cleanliness, contributing to a structured and supportive community. Additional duties include:
* Assesses & evaluates nursing & medical needs of patients who are hospitalized (e.g., admissions, ongoing treatment, discharges); initiates & directs implementation of nursing care plan; observes, evaluates & records patient behavior, condition & response to medication, treatments & therapeutic activities; provides professional nursing care (e. g., administers medications & treatments as ordered by physician, educates patient on medication(s), assists with physical examinations, takes & records vital signs, performs venipuncture); responds to emergency situations (e.g., codes, suicide, assault).
* Directs delivery of & evaluates psychiatric & nursing care of patients as delivered by professional & nonprofessional staff (e.g., licensed practical nurse (i.e., LPN), therapeutic program workers (i.e., TPW)) on assigned shift, monitors LPN medication administration, documentation, patient care & operation of medical equipment (e.g., stethoscope, blood pressure monitor, glucometer); precepts & provides support for nursing staff as assigned.
* Prepares, reviews, implements & updates records/reports/plans (e.g., individual treatment plans, incidents, restraints/seclusions, nursing care plans, shift reports, transfers, admissions & discharges); transcribes &/or verifies doctors' orders; writes nursing summaries; participates in ongoing performance improvement/quality assurance.
* Serves as interdisciplinary treatment team member; performs a variety of miscellaneous duties (e.g., light housekeeping in patient areas & living quarters; identifies & reports safety concerns; attends & completes required trainings & educational programs; schedules unit shift breaks/lunch).
This is an hourly position covered by the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of # 13 on the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours and shifts are 12-hour and 8-hour shifts, totaling 80 hours per pay period. 1st shift (6:30 am - 3:00 pm & 6:30 am - 7:00 pm), 2nd shift (2:30 pm - 11:00 pm & 10:30 am- 11:00 pm ), 3rd shift (10:45 pm - 6:45 am & 6:30 pm - 7:00 am) with every other weekend and holiday off. This position is located within Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare Campus at 100 Hospital Drive, Athens, Ohio 45701.
Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
Additional Salary / Appointment Information:
* $34.96 per hour with the first increase in 180 days to $36.65
* Additional $1.50 plus 10% of base pay per hour for shift differential for afternoon and evening shifts
* Annual increases each year with an additional longevity supplement after 5 years of service
* Must be able to complete a 4 week full time orientation (Will include 1st, 2nd, 3rd shifts, and weekends)

What does a Licensed Practical Nurse do at the Veterans Homes?
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a direct care worker that assists residents with medical treatments, observes and reports resident needs and concerns to the larger medical team. The LPN can also be seen as support between RegisteredNurses and Therapeutic Program Workers (CNA/STNA) on the unit.
* Completion of physician orders; assist with exams, treatments & collect specimens as needed; administer medication including controlled substances
