Home Care of the Carolinas company history timeline

1858

Highland Community College began as Highland University in 1858, making it the first college in Kansas.

1946

HCC began in 1946 as the city-sponsored Holyoke Junior College, a fledgling institution that lacked many of the resources traditionally associated with colleges.

1958

Doctor George Frost, the school's founder, and Ellen Lynch, his secretary, were the only full-time employees until 1958, sharing a tiny office in a former cloak room in the Holyoke High School building.

1967

In 1967, HCC became an independent institution.

1968

When Holyoke Community College's newly renovated campus burned to the ground on a bitterly cold day in January of 1968, it was the resourcefulness and innovative spirit of the college and community that enabled students to resume their studies in temporary facilities within a matter of days.

1971

1971: Created under governance of Houston Independent School District as a result of a public referendum

1974

1974 - HCC founded by Stephen L. Way

1984

1984 - HCC receives its first ever rating from A.M. Best Corporation, Inc.: "B+"

1989

1989: Separated from HISD and established own Board of Trustees

1992

1992 - First public offering of HCC stock on the NASDAQ with a market cap of $60 million and assets of just over $100 million

1996

1996 - HCC switches its listing to the NYSE

1997

In 1997 HCC had approximately 2,700 students, and moved in January to its first permanent campus at 900 Lafayette Boulevard in Bridgeport, immediately experiencing a significant enrollment increase.

1997 - Acquisition of Avemco Insurance Company and United States Specialty Insurance Company, the largest writers of privately owned aircraft in the world; receives "A+ (Superior)" rating from A.M. Best Corporation, Inc.

2000

In 2000, while working as a health executive at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Jeff Oxendine, one of the Founders, found that there were significant needs for supporting students interested in health careers and increasing the diversity of health leaders and professionals in Boston.

2001

2001 - Professional Indemnity Agency and ASU International, both specialty MGA's, join the growing list of HCC acquisitions

2002

2002 - Acquisition of MAG Global Financial Products, an MGA specializing in financial lines, including Directors & Officers and professional liability; HCC also expands into Professional Indemnity space in the UK with the acquisition of Dickson Manchester

2003

2003 - HCC enters the United States surety business with the acquisition of American Contractors Indemnity Company

2004

2004 - HCC acquires RA&MCO Insurance Services, an agency targeting Architects and Engineers insurance; HCC expands into surety and credit in Europe with the acquisition of De Monfort

2006

2006 - HCC acquires Kenrick Corporation as well as Allianz Life Insurance Company's Health Products Division

2007

2007 - HCC Specialty launches totaleventinsurance.com, an online insurance placement solution

2008

Beacon Hall opened its doors for the fall semester in 2008, sharing the campus with Lafayette Hall which housed the administrative, business, registrar, and financial aid offices, classrooms, the HCC Library, and the Burt Chernow Galleries.

2009

2009 - HCC acquires Surety Company of the Pacific, a provider of California license and permit bonds; HCC merges Syndicate 4040 with Syndicate 4141; International group hires a team to underwrite property treaty reinsurance

2010

Holyoke Community College defines its credit hour in accordance with Federal Regulation 34 CFR 600.2 published in the US Department of Education final regulations of October 29, 2010.

2013

2013 - HCC begins to offer builders risk treaty reinsurance out of London office; HCC launches the innovative broker solution hccartisans.com for artisan contractor insurance

2015

2015 - HCC acquires Producers Ag Insurance Group (ProAg), a leading writer of crop insurance; Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. acquires HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc.

2017

2017 - Tokio Marine HCC acquires AIG's Medical Stop-Loss and Organ Transplant operations

2019

2019 - Tokio Marine HCC acquires NAS Insurance Services, LLC, a leader in cyber and professional liability solutions in the United States

2021
