Innovation Sports, Inc. company history timeline

1968

Dick Fosbury used this technique in the 1968 Mexico Olympics.

He won all 3 alpine events in 1968

1984

Serginho shot over the crossbar after attempts from Jerzy Dudek to distract him, which mimicked Bruce Grobbelaar's "spaghetti legs" antics during the shootout in the 1984 final.

1985

Liverpool, who had won the competition four times, were appearing in their sixth final, and their first since 1985.

1986

First Team Sports was founded in 1986 by John Egart and David Soderquist.

1987

By 1987 the company was selling about $65,000 worth of skates a month, but losing $20,000 in the process.

1988

In January of 1988 former allies Hayne and Schumacher launched a proxy fight to bring about the proposed merger, a move that if successful would have most likely shoved Egart and Soderquist out of the picture.

1989

More important, First Team Sports turned a profit of 12 cents a share, compared with a loss of 11 cents in 1989.

1990

In early 1990 the company addressed the visibility problem by signing an endorsement contract with hockey superstar Wayne Gretzky, arguably the highest profile figure in the skating universe.

Company revenue for 1990 reached $3.5 million, more than double the previous year's total.

1992

By 1992 hockey star Brett Hull and figure skating champion Katerina Witt were also in the fold, with deals similar to the one the company had signed with Gretzky.

1993

For fiscal 1993, the company recorded sales of $38 million, a 41 percent jump over the previous year, though still only about a third of Rollerblade's figure.

Those totals landed First Team Sports at number 15 on Business Week's 1993 Hot Growth list.

The most obvious pain came in 1993, when a shift in manufacturing location from Taiwan to Minnesota--a change designed to speed delivery to United States customers&mdashøok longer than expected, leading to a huge backlog in skate orders.

1995

For fiscal 1995, the company earned $6.1 million on revenue of $86 million.

1996

In 1996 First Team Sports recorded sales of $97.7 million, along with record earnings of $7.8 million.

Entering 1998, the company opened a European subsidiary based in Austria and launched several new skate lines.

1999

Active Network was established in 1999.

2000

Today, the headquarters remain in San Diego and Active Network employs over 2000 people and reaches millions of people through their technology and services.

Fast forward a decade into the early 2000’s, and a new generation of goalkeepers was present all over Europe.

2003

9) Schevchenko, who had scored the winning penalty in the 2003 final, then had to score or Liverpool would win.

The 2005 UEFA Champions League Final; AC Milan Vs.
