  • Group Piano Instructor at Slope School Millcreek

    Slope School

Instructor job in Salt Lake City, UT

Job DescriptionSalary: $25-$40 Hourly Joyful, dependable, and creative individuals who love working with children and inspiring a love of music are invited to apply for the Piano Lab Guide position at Slope School. This is a unique opportunity to help shape a joyful, learner-driven music program where students of all levels grow not only as musicians, but as independent thinkers and leaders. The ideal candidate has experience in piano performance or instruction and finds deep joy in helping children discover their own voice through music. You are someone who shows up early, learns fast, and naturally lends a helping hand. You thrive in environments where each day looks a little different, and where your warmth, consistency, and quiet strength can help children flourish. About Slope School Slope School is a network of schools across the Utah Valley, with our flagship campus located in Provo, Utah and founded in 2019. Our vision is to build a leading group of K12 micro-schools in Utah and Salt Lake counties, as Utah becomes an innovation leader for education. Over the past 10 years, there has been a flowering of innovative micro-schools nationally. Theres a lab school in the Google office; Patagonia pioneered in-office early childhood learning at their headquarters; and Elon Musk started a microschool for his kids inside the SpaceX factory. Slope Schools leadership previously led the growth of Acton Academy to become the leading global network in this space. Acton Academy was called by the Gates Foundations former Director of Education one of the most important education developments in the world. Slope is a learner-driven community, not a traditional school. Everyone who enters the doors at Slope School, from 3 years old (our youngest learners) to 93 (our oldest collaborator, currently!), is equipped and inspired to find a calling and change the world. Young people at Slope learn leadership through practice: At all times, and in all functions, responsibility is pushed to the youngest person who could accomplish the function at a high level of excellence. Kindergartners lead math. Middle schoolers are hired for real projects. This paradigm shift creates a dynamic work space where young people love school and adults become coaches, as described by MITs Mitchel Resnick: serving as a catalyst, consultant, connector, and collaborator, not a lecturer at a blackboard. Young people from kindergarten through middle school age are comfortable leading their studios for long periods of time even a full day without an adult present, all at the highest standards of excellence. With the passing of the UT-FITS scholarship, this type of educational experience has become a financial possibility for all Utah families. Slope School's leadership team are strong advocates of giving children the opportunity to learn music in a way that will last longer than traditional music teaching methods. The innovative nature of Slope School has made it the perfect place to create a music program that is refreshingly original and promotes 2-3x the learning and growth of a traditional musical education. • Group Piano Instructor at Slope School Millcreek

    Slope School

Instructor job in Salt Lake City, UT

Joyful, dependable, and creative individuals who love working with children and inspiring a love of music are invited to apply for the Piano Lab Guide position at Slope School. Our vision is to build a leading group of K-12 micro-schools in Utah and Salt Lake counties, as Utah becomes an innovation leader for education. Over the past 10 years, there has been a flowering of innovative “micro-schools” nationally. There's a lab school in the Google office; Patagonia pioneered in-office early childhood learning at their headquarters; and Elon Musk started a microschool for his kids inside the SpaceX factory. Slope School's leadership previously led the growth of Acton Academy to become the leading global network in this space. Acton Academy was called by the Gates Foundation's former Director of Education “one of the most important education developments in the world.” Slope is a learner-driven community, not a traditional school. Everyone who enters the doors at Slope School, from 3 years old (our youngest learners) to 93 (our oldest collaborator, currently!), is equipped and inspired to “find a calling and change the world.” Young people at Slope learn leadership through practice: At all times, and in all functions, responsibility is pushed to the youngest person who could accomplish the function at a high level of excellence. Kindergartners lead math. Middle schoolers are hired for real projects. This paradigm shift creates a dynamic work space where young people love school and adults become coaches, as described by MIT's Mitchel Resnick: serving as a catalyst, consultant, connector, and collaborator, not a lecturer at a blackboard. Young people from kindergarten through middle school age are comfortable leading their studios for long periods of time - even a full day - without an adult present, all at the highest standards of excellence. About the Role As a Piano Lab Guide, you will: Lead engaging, group piano classes for young learners using a blend of self-paced curriculum and collaborative music-making Create a warm, focused, and encouraging environment where students feel safe to take risks and explore Support students as they practice at their own level and pace, offering guidance on technique, expression, and independence Teach one-on-one lessons in addition to leading group piano classes Help learners prepare for lessons and performances Collaborate with classroom guides and school leaders to integrate music into studio life and events Keep the piano lab clean, organized, and inspiring-with materials, visuals, and tools that support joyful, focused work Assist with invoicing, payroll, and other administrative tasks related to the music program at Slope School This role is not a traditional music teacher role. You will be an active contributor in shaping a learner-driven, self-motivated approach to music education. Students are trusted with real responsibility in their learning, and you will be, too. Who You Are You love working with children and respect them as capable, curious individuals You have experience with piano and music theory You have experience with Piano Marvel You are reliable, proactive, and grounded-someone who follows through and sees what needs to be done You are warm, focused, and observant, and you take joy in helping others succeed You believe that learning music can be playful, rigorous, and deeply meaningful You want to grow alongside a team and contribute to something that matters Details This position is part-time (10-15 hours/week) with potential to grow over time Schedule is Monday-Friday mornings during school hours (between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm) Hybrid of group lessons and private lessons throughout the week for a total of about 15 hours of work Lessons begin in September 2025 Location: Millcreek, UT with occasional collaboration at the Provo campus Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience
