    Reports to: Principal - WACC General Summary: This position provides top building trades students with an immersive, hands-on learning experience in home construction. The instructor will lead students through every phase of building a custom home, from blueprint reading to final finishing touches. Through real-world application, students will develop expertise in framing, I-joist floor systems, roofing, drywall, flooring, painting, and finishing work. The instructor will cultivate a professional job site atmosphere, ensuring high standards of craftsmanship, safety, and teamwork while preparing students for careers in the building trades industry. Essential Functions: Demonstrate, teach, and evaluate skills and knowledge in residential construction, including carpentry, framing, I-joist floor systems, roofing, drywall, flooring, painting and finishing work basics. Create a classroom culture of high behavior expectations that cultivate hard work and positive reinforcement. Guide students in reading and interpreting construction blueprints and executing building plans. Provide hands-on instruction in the use of tools and machinery typical in construction. Teach safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment on the construction site. Manage construction materials inventory by monitoring stock, predicting project needs, and placing orders. Uphold quality service by adhering to building codes and inspection standards. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, collaborating with local industry, and reviewing industry publications. Foster an understanding of project management through scheduling, coordination, and oversight of building projects. Develop effective lesson plans that allow for construction activities and site management within the allotted time schedule. Keep accurate records of student attendance and grades while reporting on students' academic performance and absences. Oversee the storage and use of school-owned property. Establish and maintain standards of student conduct needed to ensure an orderly, safe, and productive work environment. Evaluate each student's performance, knowledge, and skills in construction practices. Communicate with parents and school counselors on individual student progress. Identify student needs and collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and assisting students to solve educational, attitudinal, and practical problems. Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs. Integrate industry knowledge with academic state standards to promote student graduation all the while preparing them to enter the workforce beyond graduation. Engage in faculty meetings and professional development. Administer the Building Trades certification exam Work closely with our dual credit partner, Vincennes University. Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal. Qualifications: Relevant certification, minimum of 4,000 hours in the industry or degree in Building Trades, Construction Management, or a related field. Indiana Teacher's License or eligibility to obtain a valid Workplace Specialist Teacher's License. Demonstrated interest, commitment, and ability to teach students of varied skill levels and interests. Exceptional organizational and project management skills. Proven ability to manage a classroom and a construction site effectively.
