Job Description:
Lead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) are the first point of contact for Federal Flight Deck Officers when they arrive at the training venue; are responsible for checking them in; verifying weapons and credentials; conducting training and overseeing the course of fire at the gun-range. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of all personnel on the range and securing SSI and SPII information during and after requalification sessions.
HOW A LEAD FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Lead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) are the first point of contact at the training venue for Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDO) and is the on-site training manager for the program. LFIs conduct all classroom instruction; delivering the approved TSA training and safety brief; introducing and describing new equipment; and ensuring all students understand and sign the safety briefing. The LFI ensures a minimum number of SFIs are present to maintain an instructor/student ratio of 1:6 for each training session. The LFI must ensure a sufficient inventory of training supplies is on-hand at the training venue to support monthly requalification sessions. The LFI is expected to maintain positive control of the training environment from the moment students arrive at the venue to the moment they depart. Upon students? arrival; the LFIs must verify weapons and credentials of each FFDO before training commences by visual inspection. The LFI is responsible for ensuring proper scoring of targets; completion of applicable administrative forms; and collection of training data. The LFI is required sign and certify qualification scores for all FFDOs attempting to qualify. Failure of an FFDO to qualify also means that an authorized FAMS Representative and/or LFI takes custody of the unloaded weapon; transport device (lockbox); credential and other equipment for return to TSA/FAMS. If no authorized FAMS representative is present to receive the equipment; the LFI shall make immediate verbal notification to the FFDO Program Office in order to make the appropriate arrangements to return equipment and credentials. The LFI must keep all Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) secured appropriately both during and after a re-qualification session in compliance with the TSA MD 2100.2; Privacy and Information Collection Policy and TSA MD 1400.3 TSA Information Security Policy. The LFI is oversees time keeping of all SFI labor hours. The LFI must comply with internal compliance training events
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
EDUCATION / EQUIVALENT TRAINING: Current or former federal law enforcement agent; officer; or civilian employee having completed a recognized federal firearm instructor training program deemed acceptable by the TSA/FAMS. Examples of a recognized federal firearms instructor programs include; but are not limited to; certified instructor graduates of FLETC Firearms Instructor Training program (FITP); FAMS Firearms Instructor Training Program; FBI/DEA Firearms Instructor Training Program; United States Postal Inspectors Firearms Instructor Training Program or equivalent federal training program. All LFIs must successfully complete a 2-3 days firearms re-qualification training program under the technical direction of the SAC; FAMS Training Division; and the FFDO Program Office. Areas of instruction shall include; but not to be limited to; the re-qualification course(s) of fire; procedural requirements for conducting the re-qualification session; and use of a GFE Automatic External Defibrillator (AED); and basic first aid.

UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Working Conditions The work is typically performed at an indoor or outdoor gun range. Employees will be required to handle weapons and ammunition in the course of their duties. Exposure to high volumes of noise due to the firing of weapons will occur and employees are required to wear hearing protection in the form of foam ear plugs as well as external hearing protection. Exposure to expelled gun-powder as a result of fired ammunition is expected; and the employees must wash hands after handling ammunition. Work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials; boxes; or equipment. *This position requires applicants to successfully complete the security application and pass a background investigation clearance prior to starting.*

COMPENSATION
Placement on the District's Faculty Salary Schedule is dependent upon years of experience and level of education. Entry-level is from $66,812.56 to $89,535.23 at the time of employment. The Secondary Firearms Instructor (SFI) supports the Lead Firearms Instructor (LFI) during the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) Requalification Training sessions. The SFI assists the LFI as directed in the preparation; completion; and post session clean-up requirements of all FFDO Semi-annual Firearms Requalification sessions.
Ensures student safety during dry-fire and live-fire training venues.
The SFI provides one-on-one instruction to students during the pre-qualification (warm-up) course of fire; and any remedial training as designated by the LFI.
The SFI must possess the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate law enforcement training concepts and issues to a diverse audience; and must possess the demonstrated ability to instruct in accordance with the principles of basic adult education; as well as platform and practical area instruction for law enforcement.
The SFI must have the ability to interpret; apply; and adhere to established program policies; standard operating procedures (SOPs); and lesson plans.
The SFI keeps all Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) secured appropriately both during and after a re-qualification session in compliance with the TSA MD 2100.2; Privacy and Information Collection Policy and TSA MD 1400.3 TSA Information Security Policy.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Required Experience: SFIs must have a minimum of 5 years of formal experience as an instructor in ALL of the following law enforcement disciplines: firearms; defensive tactics/measures; and use of force.
The SFI must be a current or former certified law enforcement official or civilian employee having completed a military; state; county or municipally certified firearms training program.
Associates Degree; or the equivalent combination of education; technical certifications or training; or work/military experience.
The SFI must also comply with all Federal; state; and/or local requirements.
This position requires applicants to successfully complete the security application and pass a background investigation clearance prior to starting.*
Working Conditions The work is typically performed at an indoor or outdoor gun range. Employees will be required to handle weapons and ammunition in the course of their duties. Exposure to high volumes of noise due to the firing of weapons will occur and employees are required to wear hearing protection in the form of foam ear plugs as well as external hearing protection. Exposure to expelled gun-powder as a result of fired ammunition is expected; and the employees must wash hands after handling ammunition. COMPENSATION
Placement on the District's Faculty Salary Schedule is dependent upon years of experience and level of education. Entry-level is from $66,812.56 to $89,535.23 at the time of employment. The current highest salary attainable after employment is $119,985.75. The District offers a very competitive benefits package, which includes health and welfare as well as income protection. Employees also will be members of the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS). Sick leave, sabbatical, and other leaves are available according to the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Chemistry Department is part of the Mathematics and Science Division of Solano Community College. Chemistry is an integral part of many degrees offered at SCC. Foremost, is the AS degree in chemistry. Chemistry is also a required part of many other degrees including AS and AST degrees in biology, kinesiology, engineering, biotechnology, general science and biomedical science. It is also a requirement for the BS in Biomanufacturing offered at Solano Community College.
We want instructors who care about students, about pedagogy, and the future of our community. We are looking for an individual willing to take risks to achieve those goals.
DESCRIPTION:
Currently, our primary need is for a faculty member with expertise in the areas of beginning chemistry, general chemistry and chemistry for health sciences. The successful candidate will be able to teach different levels of chemistry courses including instruction in labs using a variety of instruments, and familiarity with the use of computer probes, data loggers and data analysis software. Safety is a priority at Solano Community College, and the successful candidate will be expected to know, follow, implement and enforce all safety rules and standards of the department.

Duties will include teaching chemistry lecture classes and labs. The ability to use and expand the use of technology and active learning strategies in the classroom and laboratory will be expected. Laboratory classes will be held face-to-face in our modern laboratory classrooms. Lectures may occur on campus and/or synchronously and asynchronously online. Skilled candidates who have strong academic backgrounds, and can demonstrate a variety of teaching strategies, are strongly encouraged to apply.
The position will also require providing instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations, preparing and grading assignments and examinations, meeting administrative timelines and submitting required documents and reports. Participating in division meetings, while not required, is encouraged and is paid through our flexible professional development program. Successful candidates may be required to assess course-level and program-level learning outcomes depending on the review cycle for the chemistry department. Paid regular office hours are also encouraged in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
WORK ENVIROMENT:
The recommended candidate(s) will work in a small office or larger room with multiple people, in a primarily sedentary nature, either sitting or standing. This role will require significant technology use, including long periods of looking at technology screens and entering information using a keyboard and/or mouse device. Interruptions are likely in large room settings and in small office settings. Frequent use of online meetings technology with webcam on, phone, and email will be required to communicate with all campus communities. The recommended candidate(s) must utilize vision (near) to write and to read printed materials and computer screens; utilize hearing for ordinary and telephonic conversation and to hear sound prompts from equipment; utilize manual and finger dexterity to type/keyboard and/or utilize mouse and otherwise operate a microcomputer and other office equipment.
Teaching assignments may include evening hours and off-campus instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Provide instruction in multiple areas of chemistry in accordance with established instructional and administrative requirements as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
* Evaluate and provide timely verbal and written assessments of student performance.
* Prepare and grade assignments and examinations
* Meet administrative timelines and submit completed reports and required documents
* Maintain required student attendance, scholastic records, and other related materials.
* Maintain current knowledge and skills in Chemistry.
* Maintain effective communication with peers, staff, students, and administrators.
* Participate in the assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLO) and Program Level Outcomes (PLO).
* Actively participate in department/school meetings and maintain regular office hours - adjuncts are not required to do these two things but are encouraged to do them with additional pay in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies.
* Voluntary participation in college-wide committee work and collegial governance is encouraged and, in some cases, paid in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
* Teaching assignments may include evening and weekend hours, and off-campus instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Math and Science.
Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations; create and follow a course syllabus; inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner; meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents and reports; maintain required student attendance and scholastic records; and perform assessment of student learning outcomes.
