General Description of the Job Class
Perform a variety of complex, specialized, and technical tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedure performance.
Assist radiologist with procedure protocoling and performance. Start I.V.s, administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.
Evaluate MR scans for technical quality, collate processed images and sequence of acquisition and label appropriately.
Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.
Charge MR procedures and supplies in EHR
Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Provide orientation for new technologists
Provide education and training for student technologists.
Provide for the psychological and physical needs of patients for MR procedures.
Understand and use the Image Archival System
Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets and related equipment to produce special radiographic images of specific body parts.
Position patients for MR scans using immobilization and protective equipment as required.
Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedure performance.
Assist radiologist with procedure performance. Administer contrast media or as directed and per protocol. Evaluate MR scans for technical quality, collate processed images and sequence of exposure and label appropriately.
Coordinate scheduling and patient flow involving multiple MR sites.
Assist with education and training of new physicians (interns, residents, and fellows, attending's) if Applicable.
Assist radiologists and physicists in developing new protocols and MR imaging techniques that are unique to DUHS
Help facilitate research for the Duke Health System by scanning and using protocols given. Demonstrate proficiency in the 100+ MR protocols in the Health System. Teach the correct application of these protocols to new technologists, physicians, and researchers.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work herein
**DUHS offers career growth and enrichment within Imaging services. There is a clinical ladder program with various steps and opportunities at each hospital within the health system.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Graduate or completion of program that meets eligibility requirements for registry/certification or currently holds required registry or certification.
Experience
Level I must obtain ARRT or ARMRIT in Magnetic Resonance (MR) certification within 18 months of employment.
Level II Minimum of two years' experience as an MRItechnologist.
Level III A minimum of 4 years' experience within specialty modality in which they are seeking promotion.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
Certification in one of the following required: Radiography (R), Radiation Therapy (T), Nuclear Medicine Technology (N), CNMT, ARDMS, or registry eligible for Magnetic Resonance (MR).
ARRT or ARMRIT registered in Magnetic Resonance (MR) required within 18 months of employment.
BLS certification

Provides radiation therapy services by contributing as an essential member of the radiation oncology treatment team. Responsible for performing the accurate delivery of prescribed radiation therapy under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist, using a variety of complex techniques and equipment. Shares and coordinates key information with other members of the healthcare team. Performs radiation therapy procedures on all patients served to include pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.
Essential Job Functions
Administers a course of radiation therapy as prescribed by the radiation oncologist. Maintains daily records and documents technical details of treatment administered. Understands use of all treatment accessories.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of CT Simulation techniques to provide backup in CT Simulation. Coordinates with the radiation oncologist and physics staff to insure proper positioning and measurements for planning and calculations
Understands the function and utilization of therapy treatment equipment. Is familiar with all equipment in their work areas as to include function, emergency shutdown procedures, warm-up procedures, and usage as it applies to the radiation therapy patient
Communicates with patients, other health professionals and the public. Provides patient care and comfort essential to radiation therapy. Observes the first signs of any complications and relays information to physician or radiation oncology nurse.
Maintains knowledge of billing/patient charges and generates daily charges on the ARIA software.
Performs monitor unit calculations in accordance with established procedures when appropriate. Performs checks on patients' charts for accuracy and documentation according to established procedures
Maintains knowledge of mold room procedures. Is able to construct electron blocks or other devices as appropriate
Is assigned to the on call schedule as per established procedures. Is able to complete patient setup, calculations and treatment on emergency basis.
Maintains all equipment within a therapist scope of practice, including logs. Reports equipment malfunctions to medical physicist, lead therapist or department manager. Participants in quality assessment and improvement plan
Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance. Maintain clinical competencies for assigned clinical areas. Maintain ARRT Certification in radiation therapy with documented continuing education as required by ARRT.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

JOB SUMMARY
The CT Technologist, under general supervision of a Radiologist, performs computed tomography (CT) procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Performs high quality CT procedures, according to exam protocol, in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
Utilizes AIDET when communicating with patients to: identify patient service requirements, ensure correct exam is performed on the correct patient, and establish rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family regarding the test to be performed and assesses patient's ability to tolerate exam.
Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control, drug and radiation policies, protocols and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.
Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment. Reports issues to management or appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory.
Ensures people are safe to enter the department by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.
Obtains, verifies and maintains all relevant documentation such as requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status and shielding precautions taken, consent forms, policies and procedures, etc.
Maintains medical imaging records in appropriate system and according to department policies and standards for interpretation in a timely manner.

General Summary:

Responsibilities:
1. Accurately verifies that all charges have been entered correctly into the hospital information system for each patient under treatment. Reviews patient treatment schedule at the end of the day and ensures all charges have been captured for each patient.
2. Accurately applies ionizing radiation to patients following Radiation Oncologists' prescriptions, accurately performs daily equipment warm-up and quality assurance checks following all related departmental policies.
3. Accurately reviews patient's EMR for diagnosis, prescription and all necessary treatment parameters, accurately verifies patient set-up by taking required initial and weekly portal films; documents actions following departmental policy; has all images reviewed and approved following departmental policy.
4. Follows all Radiation Oncologists' prescriptions and notifies Physics for all upcoming conedowns and boost planning for each treatment patient, completes EMR with necessary and complete set-up instructions and digital photos for all treatment patients, accurately delivers every patient's daily, monitors each patient's treatment chart for weekly verification image status; performs all check images according to schedule and department policy.
5. Accurately verifies documentation in the EMR system for every patient under treatment before delivering each treatment.
6. Maintains the treatment machine schedule for all patient treatments and the nursing schedule for all weekly treatment visits and patients receiving pre-treatment medications.
7. Accurately simulates patients using a CT-Simulator following the Radiation Oncologist's prescription.
8. Accurately performs daily equipment warm-up and quality assurance checks following all related departmental policies. Assures that all required billing documentation is present.
9. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

What You'll Do:
* Delivers and records radiation therapy treatments under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist.
* Works closely with the medical team to review images and port films for patient set ups, selection of treatment devices and verification.
* Performs daily quality assurance (QA) on equipment prior to treatment. Recognizes equipment malfunctions, troubleshoots, initiates appropriate corrective measures, and reports irregularities.
* Enters and maintains patient treatment parameters in electronic medical records.
* Maintains patient appointment schedule and ensures proper charge capture for treatments.
* Performs conventional and computed tomography (CT) simulation in preparation for patient treatment; cuts blocks, makes custom immobilization, and completes monitor unit (MU) calculations in absence of Dosimetrist or Physicist.
* Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
* Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
* Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
