Lutheran Social Services of WI and Upper MI (LSS) is looking for a part-time, benefit eligible Therapist - In Training to work with children, adults and families in community settings with our Family Preservation Program! This is a part-time, 32 hour per week, benefit eligible opportunity.
Referrals come from county CCS programs, county Children Protective Services programs, and the Department of Corrections (DOC). Our therapists meet with children, adults, and families in community settings, including the home, and school to literally and figuratively meet the client where they are at. All services provided require the use of counseling skills and treatment practices to help clients overcome barriers related based on the client's individual needs. Conduct assessments of client needs using clinical interview, objective diagnostic tools.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours weekly, from Monday to Friday
Student Age Group: Elementary school, float between two elementary school buildings.
Responsibilities: Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA)
Provide direct instruction for students who qualify for speech/language services under the MN Special Education Speech Criteria.
Serve as a member of the educational team by consulting and collaborating with the supervising SLP, school staff, Special Education team, and other staff regarding services to students.
Provide direct and indirect/consultative speech/language therapy services in accordance with a student's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
Adapt school and classroom environments, tools, and materials to improve student communication.
Meet regularly with the supervising SLP to coordinate services, maintain timely documentation of services, update student information, and design therapy materials for intervention.
Develop lesson plans, prepare materials, and create visuals for speech services provided to students.
Provide documentation of student services and progress on goals/objectives.
Assist with due process paperwork, which includes drafting end-of-trimester progress reports, annual IEP present levels of performance, and suggestions for skills to target in goals/objectives for review by the SLP.
Provide indirect services to assist with transitioning skills into the general education classroom.
Conduct/assist with articulation screenings, including scheduling student sessions.

Qualifications: Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA)
Speech Language Pathologist Assistant license in the state of MN
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with staff, students, and parents, maintained during high-stress and crisis situations.
Ability to create and write correspondence and other communication materials.
Strong technology/computer skills.
Ability and willingness to work with students receiving SLP services.
Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff while accepting feedback from the SLP/Supervisor and maintaining good relationships.
Ability to travel between buildings during the duty day, as work may take place in multiple school sites.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
Ability to maintain regular attendance, which includes completing an assigned day.
Ability to perform position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices and materials handling, data functions, and people functions.
Must be physically present in the building/onsite.
