ITW GSE company history timeline
ITW GSE ApS, formerly AXA Power Aps was founded in 1924 by Mr.
After a couple of years that he used to complete his education within the field of electro-techniques – among other in Norway, he established a small work shop in Odense in 1924.
Hobart was the first manufacturer of Aircraft Ground Power equipment in the domestic United States in 1946.
Since 1946, Hobart continually developed new products to meet the ever-changing requirements of the Aerospace industry.
In the late 1950’s , this eventually led to the company moving to Ashford in a new factory built specifically for manufacturing diesel-driven aircraft ground support equipment.
In 1953, the local airport manager who happened to be the friend of the Åkerman family, asked Axel to manufacture a small 28 VDC rectifier for the start up of small aircraft – and so he did.
From 1953 and onwards, the company manufactured many 28 VDC units that were primarily sold in Scandinavia and the Netherlands.
1958 The first AXA Power 28 VDC GPU
1972 Trilectron begins specializing in military GSE
As the years went by, customers started asking for 400 Hz unit to supply larger aircraft and therefore, in 1985, Mr.
1986 The first Point of Use PCAir unit “DXU” was manufactured by Air-A-Plane.
1987 The first AXA Power 400 Hz Solid State GPU
J&B Aviation has been providing quality products and accessories for the Ground Support industry since 1991, when founded by Allan Janis & Bruce Warne in California.
1995 Illinois Tool Works acquires Hobart
In 2000, ITW acquired Hobart Ground Power.
2001 Trilectron Industries merges into Hobart Brothers Company and becomes a division of Hobart Brothers Company
2002 Illinois Tool works acquires J&B Aviation
2003 AXA Power Plug & Play Voltage Compensation System Trilectron separated military business into separate company named ITW Military GSE Primary business supporting F16 and F22 and the Navy
Houchin joined ITW in 2005.
2009 The first AXA Power PCA was produced Trilectron’s Military product line became ITW Military GSE
In 2012, ITW proudly celebrated its 100-year anniversary, launching another century of manufacturing excellence.
In 2013, AXA Power changed its name to ITW GSE ApS to reflect the relations to ITW - Illinois Tool Works.
In 2013, ITW launched the ITW David Speer Academy, a STEM-focused charter high school honoring the legacy of David Speer, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, who was a tireless champion for education as a means to economic opportunity.
In 2018, Houchin was absorbed into ITW GSE and the equipment branded accordingly.
2018 ITW GSE becomes one single brand of all ground power units, pre-conditioned air units and accessories.
In 2021, the company had revenues of $14.5 billion, with roughly half coming from outside North America.
