Program Overview
The Johns Hopkins International Emergency Medicine & Public Health Fellowship provides specialized training for emergency physicians aiming to become leaders in global health. This fellowship equips participants with expertise in disease surveillance, emergency response, health systems strengthening, and public health practice. Core Responsibilities
Public Health Training: Complete a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree through the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, with tailored guidance on elective course selection to suit specific interests.
Field Experiences: Engage in diverse fieldwork assignments such as education, research, service delivery, and rotations at partner organizations, including WHO, tailored to the fellow's interests.
Research and Project Development: Design and conduct a primary research project in International Emergency Medicine or Public Health under expert mentorship, leading to submission for publication and presentation at conferences.
Academic and Clinical Teaching: Serve as teaching faculty in the Emergency Department, delivering lectures, developing educational materials, and mentoring medical students and residents with a focus on global health.
Emergency Medicine Clinical Practice: Provide clinical care at Howard County General Hospital in the first year and Johns Hopkins Bayview in the second year, gaining practical skills in the application of emergency medicine in academic and low-resource settings.

Board Eligibility: Must be board-eligible in Emergency Medicine.
Educational Background: Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent and have completed an accredited Emergency Medicine residency.
Clinical Appointment Eligibility: Acceptance for a faculty appointment within the JHU Department of Emergency Medicine.
MPH Program Eligibility: Acceptance into the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health MPH program.

The person will also develop high-quality test methods through evaluation of potential control measurements and sources of uncertainty.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to evaluate relevant control measurements for methods that utilize these cellular models

Coupling Computation and Machine Learning to evaluate PFAS Chemicals
The work will entail:
The position is for a postdoctoral associate level researcher interested and experienced in applied data science to work jointly with chemists, mathematicians, and computer scientists at NIST to participate in the characterization and modeling of properties and spectra of PFAS chemicals with the goals of improving detection of PFAS compounds, replacing PFAS in plasma etching processes, or identifying solid adsorbent additives to remove PFAS. To accomplish these goals, the candidate will participate in the development of AI/ML algorithms for the prediction of chemical properties, infrared and mass spectra, and ionization cross sections, incorporating uncertainty quantification into AI/ML models and providing useful information in aid of UQ in AI/ML models to discern patterns in physical properties. The position will be highly interdisciplinary, requiring regular communication between chemists, computer scientists and mathematicians working on modelling these compounds using experimental as well as data from chemistry/physics calculations/simulations.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Developing novel machine learning algorithms for the prediction of physical and chemical properties, infrared and mass spectra, and ionization cross sections using data derived from experiment and computation.
- Implementing algorithms to study the performance of AI/ML classification models.
- Assessing uncertainty in prediction and classification of experimental data as well as data sets derived from quantum chemistry and physics calculations and simulations.
- Computationally testing mathematical and machine learning models with respect to accuracy and uncertainty quantification.
- Developing software to implement the goals stated above (most likely in Python).
- Disseminating results through posters/seminars at international meetings and university seminars.
- Ensuring that all results, findings, data, software, etc. are correctly archived and transmitted through appropriate channels.
- Attending regular meetings to present updates on research and to discuss progress with collaborators.
Qualifications
- Completed a PhD (or close to completion) in data science or related field.
- Knowledge of or a desire to acquire knowledge about chemistry.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience conducting data science research.
- Significant course work in one or more of chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics and/or computer science.
- Familiarity with one or more AI/ML software packages. Familiarity with relevant, domain-specific software packages is preferred but not required.
- Ability to program in a modern computational language (e.g. Python).

PREP Research Associate
This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest, thus requires that such institutions must be the recipient of a PREP award. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas. Research Title:
Protein Engineer, Protein Sequence Function Measurements
The work will entail:
The candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research projects aimed at collecting massive protein fitness measurements in service of developing a new generation of predictive models linking sequence to function.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
? Conduct innovative research in developing large-scale measurements of protein sequence-function relationships.
? Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret results.
? Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
? Provide program management support for multi-institute collaborations and scheduling of automated experiments.
? Write and publish manuscripts for peer-reviewed and open-science mediums.
? Present findings at conferences and institutional meetings.
Qualifications
? PhD in Biology, Protein Engineering, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
? Experience working with E. coli and skilled in molecular biology techniques
? Experience characterizing protein function and/or biophysical properties.
? Excitement for interdisciplinary field-building efforts, particularly within data-driven biology.
? The ability to travel occasionally for conferences and collaboration
? Strong oral and written communication skills.

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Electron Microscopy
The work will entail:
NIST is actively seeking a candidate for a postdoctoral research position as part of a project related to the CHIPS for America Act. The project seeks to develop quantitative, atomic-resolution methods for the three-dimensional characterization of complex semiconductor devices via electron tomography. By coupling advance specimen preparation, cutting-edge electron microscopy instrumentation, and AI-driven data collection and reconstruction, we will deliver a robust suite of measurement tools to the semiconductor industry.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
* Sample preparation via focused ion beam methods
* Collecting and processing of TEM tomography data
* Presenting results at internal meetings, and occasional meetings with external stakeholders.
* Ensuring that results, protocols, software, and documentation have been archived or otherwise transmitted to the larger organization.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, or a related field with a concentration in electron microscopy methods
* Experience in the collection and processing of TEM/STEM data
* Computer programming for custom data processing

Accelerated Laboratory Testing and Failure Analysis for Advanced Semiconductor Packaging
The work will entail:
The Infrastructure Materials Group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology seeks a researcher with knowledge of reliability testing and modeling for advanced semiconductor packaging and extensive expertise in one or more of the following technical areas: accelerated laboratory testing, polymer degradation, mechanical characterizations for interfaces of multilayers, and failure analysis using microscopy, spectroscopy, or X-ray based techniques.
If selected, you will play a significant role in the projects related to reliability testing and modeling for advanced packaging in semiconductors. This includes working with NIST staff and external partners on planning and executing experimental research to evaluate changes in mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties of polymeric materials used in advanced packaging in CHIPS after aging under environmental stresses. The results will be used to understand the failure mechanism, develop more accurate prediction models for long-term reliability of advanced packaging reliability and provide a scientific basis for test method development, material selection, and product quality assurance for the semiconductor industry.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Developing new test methods for thin film interfacial adhesion.
- Characterizing the degradation of materials and interfaces before, during, and after exposure to accelerated laboratory aging.
- Conducting in-situ environmental digital image correlation (DIC) to quantify package and assembly deformation during thermal cycling
- Developing FIB/TEM/SEM analytical methods and X-ray-based techniques for complex advanced packaging systems.
- Developing robust datasets of materials and interface properties before and after aging for reliability models.
- Disseminating research results through presentations at conferences, publication of journal papers, and technical reports.
Qualifications

The work will entail:
Develop targeted and non-targeted analytical mass spectrometric methods for the identification and quantification of organic contaminants in ultra-pure water and other cleaning chemicals used in the semiconductor industry. Explore various extraction and concentration techniques (SPE, SPME, purge-and-trap, headspace, etc.) and/or develop novel concentration techniques to be able to detect contaminants at trace levels. Use high-resolution mass spectrometry for compound discovery of potential unknown organic contaminants.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Develop new methods, approaches, and procedures in cooperation with coworkers or advisors with limited supervision;
Using advanced analytical equipment such as GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, GC-HRMS, LC-MS/MS, and LC-HRMS;
Develop non-targeted high-resolution mass spectrometry-based methods for compound discovery at trace levels;
Investigate various extraction and concentration protocols, and if needed develop novel techniques;
* Communicate and collaborate with team members; and
Qualifications

The candidate will plan and conduct research using X-ray reflectivity, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to determine through hybrid metrology, open-source, analysis methods, structural maps for wafers with thin films of essential interest to the semiconductor community.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Plan and conduct research on advanced X-ray metrologies to determine structural (physical and chemical) properties of blanket (non-patterned) thin films on Si and SiC wafers.
- Use X-ray characterization methods, such as X-ray reflectivity, X-ray fluorescence, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, to determine the structural properties of thin film samples.
- Use open-source (python) fitting methods to constrain structural models, determine uncertainties, and combined these properties into a hybrid metrology digital wafer.
- Perform wafer dicing, cleaning, and packaging of samples for distribution as a Research Grade Test Material to pair with the previously-determined digital wafer model.
- Publish results in refereed scientific journals and present results at conferences and meetings.

The Poverty and Inequality Research Lab (PIRL) at Johns Hopkins University is seeking applicants for one Postdoctoral Fellow to work with Director Dr. Stefanie DeLuca and Dr. Richard Settersten at Oregon State University on a new project to examine the role of alternative credentials in the postsecondary education, talent development, workforce transitions and economic mobility of learners and workers of all ages.
This full-time, fully funded position starts in July 2026 as a one-year appointment, with the possibility of a second year depending on funding and work scope. No teaching is required. The fellow will be based at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, with occasional supported travel to Oregon for collaboration.
The Fellow will work under the advisement of Drs. DeLuca and Settersten, coordinating research with the assistance of pre-doctoral fellows and graduate and undergraduate research assistants to collect survey data and/or conduct in-depth open-ended interviews, and to code and analyze data. The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct quantitative, qualitative and archival analyses, using a range of social scientific methods. These methods include qualitative data collection and analysis through semi-structured interviews, structural micro-econometric modeling and estimation, and statistical analysis of large-scale administrative data.
Although not the focus of this Fellowship and subject to funding, the Fellow may have the opportunity to work on other ongoing projects at PIRL in collaboration with Dr. DeLuca as well as economist Dr. Nicholas Papageorge, Associate Director of PIRL, and economist Dr. Raj Chetty, Director of Opportunity Insights at Harvard University. Ongoing project topics include how the trajectories of community college students shape degree attainment and employment outcomes, housing policies to increase neighborhood quality and residential choice, the responses of high-achieving low-income students to financial aid, and trends in economic mobility.
The Fellow will also benefit from the larger PIRL and JHU community as well as Oregon State University's College of Health. General Description
The Johns Hopkins University's Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics invites applicants for one or more positions as Postdoctoral Fellow. Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. prior to their appointment start date, and no later than 8/31/2026 and show definite promise in research and teaching. Theteaching load will be at most one course each semester, and often as little as one course per year, depending on funding and needs of the department, so that theappointee will have ample time for research. Professor Giannone's research lies at the intersection of economics, applied statistics, and data science, with a focus on advancing empirical and computational methods for understanding complex economic and financial systems.

Applied statistics and econometrics with emphasis on high-dimensional data analysis, forecasting and predictive modeling, machine learning methods, and applications involving text and other non-traditional data sources.
The fellow will contribute to and extend research in these areas, engaging in projects that develop and apply cutting-edge quantitative methods to address pressing questions in economics and related fields. Professor Gillian Hadfield is seeking highly-qualified postdoctoral scholars to join her team at the Normativity Lab at Johns Hopkins University in 2026. The Normativity lab examines the foundations of human normativity and leverages insights to inform the development of AI systems that align with human values. The ideal candidate will have a track record in experiments with multiagent systems using reinforcement learning and/or generative agents, interest and ideally experience in training models to interpret and align with norms, and a background in interdisciplinary research such as overlaps between AI and cognitive science, microeconomic theory, cultural evolution theory, or moral/normative/legal reasoning. These are full-time positions with the potential for appointments 12-18 months in duration, and the possibility of further extension. About the Normativity Lab
How can we ensure AI systems and agents align with human values and norms? Maintain and enhance the complex cooperative economic, political and social systems humans have built? What will it take to ensure that the AI transformation puts us on the path to improved human well-being and flourishing, and not catastrophe? Existing approaches to alignment, such as RLHF, constitutional AI and social choice methods, focus on eliciting human preferences, aggregating them across multiple, pluralistic values if necessary, and fine-tuning models to satisfy those preferences. In the Normativity Lab we believe these approaches are likely to prove too limited to address the alignment challenge and that the alignment questions will require studying the foundations of human normativity and human normative systems. We bridge computational modeling, specifically multi-agent reinforcement learning and generative agent simulations, and economic, political, and cultural evolutionary theory to explore the dynamics of normative systems and explore how to build AI systems and agents that have the normative infrastructure and normative competence to do as humans have learned to do: create stable rule-based groups that can adapt to change while ensuring group well-being.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Ownership: Take ownership of research projects, working independently and collaboratively with a diverse team of experts
Model Development: Develop and refine multiagent systems to simulate and analyze normative behaviors in various contexts.
Data Collection and Analysis: Design and implement empirical studies, including data collection, statistical analysis, and interpretation of results.
Publication: Prepare and submit manuscripts for publication in high-impact academic journals and present findings at conferences and workshops.
Collaborate with Team Members: Work closely with lab members and external collaborators to foster a productive research environment and contribute to interdisciplinary projects.

Qualifications
