Our Flagstaff Substation Maintenance crew has an immediate opening for a Substation Journeyman. The work hours for this position are Monday- Friday 6:00AM - 2:30PM (AZ/MST). This posting has been designated by the Company as a "Hard-to-Fill" position and therefore is eligible for a one-time $10,000 signing/retention bonus under the terms and conditions of the executed LOMA dated 11/11/2025.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Must qualify as a Substation Journeyman
Completed a Registered Apprenticeship Program or an equivalent training program (as approved by APS T&D Technical & Safety Training) PLUS one year experience as a Substation Journeyman**
Commercial Driver's License (Class “A”) with ability to meet all DOT requirements. Must have at least a Class A CDL permit at the time of application, and a clean driving record.
If applying with a CDL Permit, a valid Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions (i.e., airbrakes)) must be obtained prior to the official transfer/start date.
If applying with an out-of-state CDL, a valid Arizona Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions (i.e., airbrakes)) must be obtained within 30 days of the official transfer/start date.
Must live within reasonable distance (one (1) hour) from assigned Headquarters.
Subject to overtime and or/ out-of-town assignments
Qualifying tests (written and hands-on) will be administered. (Travel reimbursement may be available for out of state candidates.)
This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300 lbs or less.
Preferred Qualifications:

JOB DUTIES
The Craftsman - HVAC will diagnose, install, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment at the College.
* The Craftsman - HVAC will complete all work orders and respond to requests as assigned in a timely manner.
* Provide customer focused service to stakeholders of MCCC at the West Windsor and Trenton Campuses
* Perform regular preventative and proactive maintenance and inspections to reduce and eliminate concerns.

* Acquire significant working knowledge of the College HVAC systems as needed through inspection, blueprint interpretation, and document analysis.
* Assist with maintenance, adjustment, calibration, troubleshooting, and installation of controls on new, and existing, campus building automation and energy management systems.
* Respond to campus heating and cooling issues reporting concerns and trouble shooting solutions.
* Provide technical resolution to HVAC, building automation, and related issues.
* Read, understand, and interpret system blueprints, specifications, and performance data to determine configuration and purpose of all system components.
* Provide technical support, direction, and guidance to end users and other trades personnel.
* Monitor and maintain HVAC systems throughout the West Windsor and Trenton campuses.
* Provide monthly updated reports to supervisor, in addition to ancillary reports.
* Identify potential problems, make adjustments or repairs as needed and report to the Team Leader, Supervisor, or designee
* Maintain an inventory of stock for parts that are used on a routine basis.
* Maintain high level of technical proficiency in building system applications through regular educational activities such as seminars, training classes, conferences, and self-education
* Respond to campus emergencies, both during the day and after hours, as needed.
* Follow all College policies, protocols, and procedures
* Follow industry standards to ensure best practices in HVAC are applied.

Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair problems, including component installation and replacement
Interpret and apply electrical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, and wiring diagrams
Test newly installed components to ensure proper function
Carry out plumbing preventative maintenance
Perform maintenance and installation of plumbing equipment in homes and businesses
Replace defective piping
Repair leaks inside the boiler room
Pipe welding is a plus
General plumbing skills
Boiler chamber repair
Knows their way around tools
Qualifications:
Must have EPA 608 refrigerant recovery certification
Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record
Candidate must obtain plumber license (Level 1 required, Level 2-3 desired)
Certification from a plumbing program at a technical or trade school
Minimum of 1+ years apprenticeship experience under a master plumber required
1 year minimum experience
Capable of working alone
