Founded in 1965 as the first technical school in South Dakota, Lake Area Tech now has 31 programs (including hybrid, online E-Degrees), 2,600+ enrolled students, and a living record of success:
While waiting for a facility to be built, Cosmetology, Auto Mechanics, and Business Education programs began in the fall of 1966 in Leesburg, Florida.
The Lake Area Technical College Foundation was formed in 1992 as an independent, 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization created to encourage and accept private-sector gifts to the College.
In 2016, Lake Technical College entered into a partnership with Lake Sumter State College (LSSC) and began offering Practical Nursing, Nursing Assistant, Paramedic, GED and ESOL programs on the LSSC South Lake and Sumter campuses.
