Lancaster Emergency Medical Services Association company history timeline

1996

On February 27, 1996, Lancaster EMS (also known as 'LEMSA') was incorporated as a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) emergency medical services association.

Our first day of operations was April 26, 1996.

1997

1998

Simultaneously, service hours were increased for both BLS and ALS units in response to the increased demand. As a result, our first non emergency vehicle was added in August 1998.

1999

In 1999 a satellite station was opened at the Lancaster Airport, which helps provide faster response times to the northern section of Manheim Township.

2000

In the 70’s the ambulance responded to 300-500 calls for help per year, and in the 80’s those calls increased to 1000-2000 calls for help, and continued to increase in the 90’s averaging 2500-3500 calls for assistance.

2006

In June of 2006, the name of our service and corporation changed from Lancaster Rescue Squad, Inc. to Lancaster EMS, Inc.

2010

In 2010 Manheim Township Ambulance was dispatched to respond on 4632 emergency calls through the 911 system.

2017

In 2017, Lancaster EMS saw the need to consider a full-time EMS Director/Chief.

2019

In November 2019, Jeff Boughton was hired as the first EMS Director/Chief for Lancaster EMS.

2021

In 2021 Lancaster EMS petitioned the Wisconsin Department of Health to change our staffing level to a “flex staffing” model.
