1960

Inspired by the political activism of the 1960’s, these students began to see themselves not as patients but, in political terms, as an oppressed minority.

1962

Ed Roberts began classes at the University of California in 1962 in Berkeley.

1972

In 1972, the first Center for Independent Living was established in Berkeley, California by Ed Roberts and the Rolling Quads.

1981

In 1981, it received a federal Centers for Independent Living grant, became the first Center for Independent Living in Indiana and separated all ties with the Community Coordinating Council.

2000

Major change occurred again in the year 2000, as the demand for League services had grown to the point that waiting lists had developed for three existing programs.
