Job Description:
We are seeking dedicated individuals to serve as Bus Safety Aides for our Mason Early Childhood Center (MECC). The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the safety and organization of bus parking spots at designated locations before the arrival of buses. Bus Safety Aides play a critical role in maintaining safety protocols, facilitating smooth bus operations, and ensuring the well-being of students, staff, and pedestrians.
Key Responsibilities:
Preparation and Supervision: Supervise the bus parking spots at Mason Early Childhood Center before the arrival of buses, ensuring that all students remain a safe distance from the parking spot as well as clearing the area of obstacles, debris, and any potential hazards.
Safety Inspection: Conduct visual inspections of bus parking spots to identify safety concerns or issues. Addressing individuals, making sure they wait in a safe location while their bus arrives.
Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with bus drivers, transportation staff, and pedestrians. Provide guidance and assistance as needed to ensure efficient bus arrivals and departures.
Customer Service: Provide courteous and helpful assistance to bus drivers, students, parents, and other stakeholders. Address inquiries, concerns, or complaints in a professional and respectful manner.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in transportation or safety management.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Physical stamina and the ability to stand, walk, and lift objects as needed.
Knowledge of traffic regulations and safety protocols is desirable but not required.
Working Conditions:
Flexible scheduling may be necessary to accommodate bus arrival times and operational needs.
The role may involve moderate physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
Outdoor work may be required, with exposure to various weather conditions.

JOB OBJECTIVE(S):
1. To provide assistance to the Bus Driver and to transport students in a safe and orderly manner.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:
1. Manager of Transportation Services.
2. The Bus Driver while on the bus.
DUTIES/PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist the bus driver in loading and unloading wheelchair students in a safe manner.
2. Assist the students getting on and off the bus in a safe and orderly manner.
3. Assist the bus driver in maintaining good conduct on the bus.
4. Provide assistance to the bus driver in preparing written reports relative to violations of student conduct code and safety violations.
5. Assist the bus driver in the identification of motor vehicles which pass the bus while loading or unload ing with red lights on.
6. Assist the driver in the event of a medical emergency involving a student.
7. In case of an accident, assist the driver in evacuating the students from the bus and supervise the students at the accident location.
8. Assist the driver in any situation that might occur to insure good discipline and safe riding practice.
9. When necessary, aide should help children cross on busy streets.
10. Assist driver in planning of routes.
11. Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned and/or required.
12. Abide by the Mansfield City Board of Education policies, rules, and regulations.
13. Perform other reasonably related duties as may be assigned by the manager of Transportation Services and/or the Bus Driver.
