Summary Functions as an emergency response medical professional that administers immediate medical care to victims of accidents, violence, and sudden illnesses such as cardiac arrests or strokes. Provides pre-hospital and intra-hospital advanced life support care from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility. Job Duties Represents the ambulance service while on duty at public service functions, expositions, and other public events and provides ambulance stand by services when necessary. Documents full assessment and treatments in patient care charting software. Cares for patients in psychiatric, medical, and traumatic crisis by providing medical, traumatic, and therapeutic services. Serves as a member of a two-member ambulance crew responding to emergency and non-emergency calls. Operates equipment such as bag valve mask resuscitators, external defibrillators, and electrocardiograms for advanced life support applications. Assesses the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed such as stabilization, immobilization, lifting, and moving of victims from scene of any accident or catastrophe. Responds to instructions from a dispatcher and drives and operates specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified locations at a safe and controlled speed. Administers drugs via injection, intravenous procedures, or oral administration under the direction of a physician. Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding treatment. Cleans and decontaminates ambulance after transporting or treating any patient with infectious disease and reports infectious disease to relevant authorities. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED Ability to assess needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families. Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools. Demonstrates age-specific competencies in the care of neonates, infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers, school aged, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions. Must be able to apply advance knowledge and training, developing and executing a plan of care, and rapidly intervene in life-saving procedures.
