Job Summary and Qualifications Prepares patients, collects relevant information for completion of procedures. Performs all CT procedures, Able to learn and/or perform MRI Exams Observant of patients' conditions. Practices and enforces radiation safety as described in federal standards, utilizing ALARA policy. Adheres to all appropriate hospital and regulatory policies and assists in maintaining accreditation. Understands and operates electronic information systems. Compiles appropriate records to expedite results. Administers contrast media as required. Participates in continuing education activities to expand/enhance knowledge of CT and to meet the continuing education requirements of the ARRT. Takes call after regular hours as assigned. Maintains appropriate supplies. Assures primary area is clean and organized. Assists in other areas of the department when not needed in primary area. Performs clerical and transport duties as needed. What qualifications you will need: EXPERIENCE Required: Experience as a Radiologic Technologist. Preferred: One year dedicated CT experience. EDUCATION Required: Graduate of accredited school of Radiologic Technology. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION Required: ARRT registered. Required: CT Registry within 12 months of employment and BLS within 90 days of employment. Duties for this position include but are not limited to circulating and scrubbing roles during procedures, patient teaching, assisting with patient care within scope of practice, inventory management and schedule coordination. - Efficiently and effectively provides procedural support for a variety of patient procedures. - Operates imaging system for special procedures. - Applies appropriate measures to minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, employees, and others. - Responsible for achieving quality assurance measures and requirements. - Responsible for maintaining inventory. - Successfully participates in continuing education. - Performs exams as directed by radiologist to ensure appropriate views of anatomy are taken that will facilitate an accurate diagnosis. - Assists radiologist directly, utilizing sterile technique for all invasive procedures. - Prepares patient for diagnostic procedures including pulse assessment and sterile field preparation. - Participates in assessment and quality of equipment and daily operational supplies with the Manager, Radiology, and makes recommendations accordingly. - Maintains adequate level of supplies. - Notifies appropriate personnel to ensure proper maintenance of equipment. - Remains abreast of current developments by attending related seminars and reviewing current literature. - Assists in other areas of Radiology, if needed, if there is no other work in the special procedures section. - Conducts patient education and screening and scheduling. - Complies with all Radiology Information System and PACS entry requirements for accurate patient, film, supply, tracking monitors. - Ensures the safety of patients, visitors, co-workers, and self by using appropriate radiation and bloodborne pathogen precautions. - Assists and supports the Radiologic student program, specifically the clinical aspect. Maintains and applies knowledge of radiation protection standards; knowledge of the function of the major divisions of the skeletal system and major organs; and knowledge of the physical concept of energy and the property of X-rays and electric circuits to perform diagnostic procedures and to assist as a member of a medical team in radiologic examinations. Provides services using imaging modalities including but not limited to conventional x-ray (CR, DR). Evaluates radiographs for technical quality. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures. Provides patient care essential to radiographic procedures. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and reports to provider/radiologist. Assists with clinical processes to support nursing/medical care for the provision of safe, accurate and timely patient care. Performs other duties as assigned. LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS Current licensure as a Radiologic Technologist by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) required. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 2-3 years pediatric or general x-ray experience preferred. Knowledge of diagnostic radiology principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of radiologic equipment. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients/families, staff and physicians. Analytical skills necessary to determine best method of providing requested radiographs based on the individual case and basic technical principles, ensuring clear undistorted radiographs at the lowest radiation exposure/dosage. Ability to work as a clinically integrated team member to support and assist with the provision of identified clinical and laboratory services to maintain patient flow and satisfaction. CPR Training required and/or must be obtained and maintained within 45 days of hire. Must provide record of a completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing laboratory or point of care testing. WORKING CONDITIONS Radiology/Imaging areas work environment with rare exposure to physical discomforts due to unpleasant odors from specimens and chemicals. Occasional exposure to infectious agents when handling specimens or hazardous materials but potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed.
