As a Substitute Instructional Aide, you will provide individualized supervision and instruction to assigned Middle School students and additional support to the core classroom staff. In the absence of the regular classroom aide, you will work with student(s) to implement their individualized education programs (IEP) through use of group and individual instruction in both the classroom and community.
Responsibilities Include:
Working with students to improve their community, vocational, leisure, domestic, academic, and social skills.
Implementing curriculum (including all on-site and community-based instruction) and behavioral intervention strategies consistent with the letter and intent of the IEP/ITP (Individual Transition Plan)/PBIP (Positive Behavior Intervention Plan) to meet each student's goals and objectives.
Instructing and monitoring students during lessons in the classroom to ensure fidelity of instruction.
Encouraging and monitoring the progress of individual students in accordance with specific timelines and communicating with the classroom teacher regarding overall progress and/or interventions needed.
Completing accurate and timely documentation on student's behavior as outlined by school procedures; reporting observations to relevant staff and making recommendations based on observations.
Assisting in preparation of other behavioral reports and daily activities log as required.
Maintaining confidentiality of student information and records at all times.
Participate in school meetings, student/parent meetings and individual student advisory meetings as requested and required.
Responding constructively to formal and informal feedback.
Performing other duties as assigned.
This position operates with oversight and guidance from the classroom teacher and program director in carrying out the essential duties and responsibilities to provide support to assigned students and ChanceLight program site.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
Associate degree or higher in education or a closely related field of study preferred.
Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management (PCM) training.
Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a paraprofessional, paraeducator, teaching assistant or similar credential preferred.
Prior experience working with children, preferably in a special education program setting.
Highly skilled in working with individuals with autism spectrum related disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders and/or challenging behaviors.
Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.
Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.
Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
Well-versed in the use of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.

Job Description
Position Summary:
The Environmental Cooperative brings people to the Preserve at Vassar and other local natural areas to engage in educational activities and experience nature. Exploring Science is our place-based outdoor education program that allows youth to engage with nature and learn about the ecology of their neighborhoods.
The Outreach and EducationAssistant facilitates summer programming through our Exploring Science program. Working closely with Environmental Cooperative staff and Vassar students, they will develop and implement environmental education field trips with local youth, increase awareness and appreciation of nature in Poughkeepsie, and maintain natural areas on and off campus. Outdoor lessons include age-appropriate activities that increase comfort outdoors and appreciation of the natural environment, such as nature crafts and games, nature journaling, and science explorations. The position is essential in supporting the connection between Vassar College and community partners.
The Outreach and EducationAssistant is a full time (37.5 hrs./wk.), 11 weeks position, starting May 26 and ending August 12.
Responsibilities:
Teach outdoor education programs to children ages 3-18 years old as part of the Environmental Cooperative's Exploring Science Program.
Create lesson plans focusing on the natural sciences and nature appreciation; prepare supplies and teaching materials.
Represent the Environmental Cooperative, the Preserve, and Vassar College at outreach events.
Assist with the land stewardship activities, such as the maintenance of native wildflower gardens, seed collection and propagation, and trail maintenance.
Work with a team of interns and staff to plan and implement summer activities.
Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all students and accompanying adults. Work safely in an outdoor environment.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities
High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior experience working with children.
Able to work outdoors in summer weather (i.e., high humidity and heat).
Comfortable working outdoors with insects, poison ivy, and wildlife.

Completing record keeping tasks assigned by the teacher, such as lunch reports, attendance, recording grades in the register, report cards, cumulative records, and compiling program reports.
Formatting individual student schedules.

Once admitted to the College via EOP, students have access to a myriad of services including but not limited to academic, pre-professional and personal counseling; tutoring; workshops; advocacy; and supplemental financial aid.
The EOP at Farmingdale State College will be hiring part-time, temporary tutors for the Spring 2021 semester. Applicants must possess the minimum of a Bachelor's Degree.
