Logansport High School company history timeline

1829

The city of Logansport's school history begins in March 1829 with a one-story, two room schoolhouse at the corner of Fourth and Market Streets known as the Eel River Seminary.

1840

On August 11, 1840, the Cass County and Eel River Seminary Association bought a square plot of ground from the estate of General John Tipton.

1849

It opened for the school year in September of 1849.

1863

High school classes were first offered in Logansport at the Seminary in 1863, when a system dividing the school children into four categories -- primary, intermediate, grammar and high school -- was implemented.

1871

The first recorded high school commencement took place June 1, 1871, at the Mesodian Opera House, located over Porter's Drug Store.

1874

The following year, 1874, the Seminary was razed, and a new structure was erected on the same site.

1923

They earned money through the play given in the auditorium on February 2, 1923, entitled The Importance of Being Earnest and by selling Eskimo Pies during the basketball season.

The 1923 Tattler carried a story about the presentation on March 19, 1923 of the Lincoln statue to the high school.

1926

Tucker’s story was validated by Curly Hupp’s daughter, Nancy (Hupp) Wallis of the class of 54’. Felix did not make it onto the floor until the 1926-27 season, Tucker and Hupp’s senior year.

1933

The emblem appeared on the 1933 Tattler cover.

1935

1964

The flag’s designer, 1964 graduate Russ Bridenbaugh, created a flag with the school seal on the left lying on a white triangular field pointing to the right.

1967

The course of building a new high school was first embarked on in 1967.

1968

In February 1968 the board voted to purchase the property where the high school is now located.

1971

The off campus El-Tip-Wa Vocational School began in 1971 at the old Pepsi Bottling Company warehouse on Sixth Street.

1973

Although there were some trimming in the proposed cost of the building, it was completed and classes started in 1973.

1986

Felix IV was submitted to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Museum in New Castle in 1986, where he is on display today.

1992

In 1992, an auxiliary gym with new locker rooms and weight room were added off of the Berry Bowl.

1996

The Berries were victorious, and thus Felix became our mascot and the first 'official' basketball mascot in Indiana." Another version that is much more detailed was told by Ralph "Red" Tucker in 1996.

2000

A community fundraiser was held in 2000-01 to purchase a new Felix costume.

2002

In 2002, major renovations were done to the current LHS Campus:

In 2010, Don Oriolo announced the launch of the Oriolo Guitar Company.

On Friday, December 16, 2017, Logansport High School celebrated the 90th Birthday of Felix the Cat as the oldest mascot in the state of Indiana.
