1871

Los Angeles Turners, a 501 (c) 3 corporation, founded by German immigrants in the 19th century, has been active in Los Angeles since 1871.

1893

3,000 Turners performed at the Federal Gymnastics Festival in Milwaukee, 1893.

1902

Founded in 1902 by Henry C. Turner, a devout Quaker from the eastern shore of Maryland, The Turner Corporation has grown into one of America's top general contractors.

1915

1919

In 1919 the company received its first international contract.

1941

By 1941, when Henry C. Turner retired, defense work represented 81 percent of the company's business.

1948

In 1948, the United States Post Office issued a 3-cent commemorative stamp marking the 100th anniversary of the movement in the United States.

1951

By 1951, with all this activity, company sales had reached $100 million.

1991

In 1991 Turner completed construction of the 63-story Society Tower in Cleveland.

1992

In 1992 President Parmelee noted that, "Our roots go very, very deep.

Some construction and management contracts for public-funded projects were also awarded in 1992.

1994

Under the direction of chairman and chief executive officer Alfred T. McNeill, the company undertook a restructuring in 1994 that encompassed a moderate consolidation of Turner's traditionally decentralized corporate structure and a corresponding staff reduction.

1995

The corporation formed a joint venture known as Turner-Thompson Sports in 1995.

1996

In 1996 it completed $3.3 billion worth of construction projects.

1998

2011

Fifty-four Turner societies still exist around the United States as of 2011.

2016

The “Turner Center” in Westchester, on Los Angeles’ West Side, was until 2016 home to our members who participate in social and cultural events, dance evenings, fitness classes, and movie/sports viewing.

2021

In September 2021, after a hiatus due to Covid, the Los Angeles Turners open their new Los Angeles Turners Center with Museum and Turners Learning Center (TLC) at Alpine Village, Suite 105B, in Torrance, California.
