1913

Further, until the Seventeenth Amendment of the Constitution (1913), election to the Senate was indirect, by the state legislatures.

1963

Her parents, Joseph Moseley, a policeman, and her mother, Edna (Davie) Moseley, a medical technician, divorced in 1963.

1972

Moseley earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1972.

1973

In 1973, Moseley married Michael Braun, whom she had met in law school.

1978

In 1978 she won election to the Illinois state house of representatives, a position she held for a decade.

She joined the United States Attorney's Office in Chicago before being elected to the Illinois state legislature in 1978, where she served for 10 years.

1979

In 1979, he co-founded Crystal Farms, Inc. which later became one of the largest turkey operations in the Midwest.

1984

Holiday Commission—an organization established in 1984 to promote national recognition of the holiday—Moseley-Braun helped thwart a Helms amendment to the legislation that would have replaced government money with private donations.

1986

The couple raised a son, Matthew, but their marriage ended in divorce in 1986.

Following an unsuccessful bid for lieutenant governor in 1986, she served four years as Recorder of Deeds for Cook County, Illinois, the first African American elected to a Cook County executive position.

In 1995 she joined five of her women colleagues in the Senate to call for public hearings on alleged sexual misconduct by Senator Robert William Packwood of Oregon.18

1999

2000

Attempting to revive her political career, Moseley-Braun entered the race for the Democratic nomination for President in 2000, but she was unsuccessful.
