Perform a variety of analysis tasks related to vehicle design, including system sizing, vehicle configuration and design, flight/mission performance, and trajectory optimization.
Conduct vehicle design optimization, trade, and sensitivity studies to derive system level requirements, conduct feasibility studies and performance predictions, and identify promising technology investments.
Contribute to concept development of next generation missile/weapon systems, including system-of-systems considerations.
Develop and apply state of the art physics-based and empirical models and simulations for conceptual design.
Help guide technical programs to successful outcomes with clear communication to APL partners and sponsors.

A B.S. degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, or related subject area
Minimum of 5+ years of related professional experience, including conceptual vehicle design
Focused experience in at least one system or sub-system level discipline (e.g. airframe design, solid/liquid propulsion, aerodynamics, GNC, seekers, trajectory optimization, etc.) and familiarity with aerospace vehicles.
Experience with developing MDO analysis tools/frameworks
Experience with engineering models and simulations
Familiarity with MATLAB programming techniques to solve engineering problems
An understanding of aerospace vehicle flight dynamics, propulsion systems, vehicle size/weight estimation techniques
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a history of significant contributions to multidisciplinary teams solving engineering design problems

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 80,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Staff Engineer for our Tysons (McLean), Virginia office. The Staff Engineer provides project coordination, subject matter expertise, and analysis in support of the activities, programs, and safety initiatives of the Association in the areas of aviation safety and security related to current and future flight deck technologies and avionics of civilian transport category airplanes.
This staff engineers daily work focuses on policies, regulations, and standards that include the design, integration, and operation of future avionics, the architecture of the flight deck environment, and other related topics. The position actively participates in activities that involve continuing airworthiness of avionics systems, proposed rules related to airplane avionics and flight decks, and associated policies. The position also participates in the development of industry standards at organizations such as RTCA, and ASTM, for the next generation of avionics and airline flight decks that will be utilized by ALPA members.

Job Responsibilities

Implement improvements, make process changes through established change controls, and ensure the processes meet required yields and material performance requirements.
Responsible for defining and establishing process documentation, including work instructions and process controls.
Will collaborate with the Manufacturing teams to support required KPIs, goals and objectives and make problem solving a priority to support Manufacturing.

Sedulous is seeking an Optical Engineer to provide on-site technical support for the Electro-Optic Support Facility (EOSF) at MCSC Quantico in support of the Product Manager Infantry Weapons (PdM IW) program.
Primary duties will include (but not limited to):
Provide on-site technical support for the Electro-Optic Support Facility (EOSF) at MCSC Quantico in support of the Product Manager Infantry Weapons (PdM IW) program. The EOSF tests a broad range of optical systems to include day optical systems, image intensification systems, laser systems, and thermal systems.
Conduct electro-optical system testing, surveillance, troubleshooting, maintenance management, test plan development, test method development, and test equipment upkeep.
Maintain inventory control and properly document the accountability of all equipment within the EOSF.
Provide technical analysis of test results, process testing data, participate in limited user evaluations, support government shipping of equipment to and from the EOSF, and ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the EOSF are maintained and followed.
Tasks include specifying, selecting, and qualifying active and passive optical components, developing and benchmarking system performance models, developing and implementing test procedures, and evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation.
Conduct research on solid-state lasers, masers, infrared, and other light-emitting and light-sensitive devices: Incorporate methods for maintenance and repair of components and designs, and develop test instrumentation and test procedures. Confer with engineering and technical personnel regarding fabrication and testing of prototype systems.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Possess 5-7 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree or 3-5 years with a Master's degree.
Possess strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
