Full Time: 72 hours per pay period Schedule: (VST 0700 - 1100) 09:00am - 09:30pm Variable Shift Lengths: 8-12 hours Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities as Assigned:
* Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper standard precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
* Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
* Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
* Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
5. Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas.
6. Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
7. Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
8. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Qualifications:
Required:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Completion of approved sterile processing course.
* Certification required within one year from hire as certified by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) as a technician.
Preferred:
* Prior experience in sterile processing preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Demonstrates expertise in sterile service operations; including the ability to operate all processing equipment, perform required sterilization verification tests and maintain accurate records.
2. Demonstrates understanding and practice of aseptic technique, decontamination, processing and sterilization techniques, inventory and distribution, infection control and quality assurance as it relates to sterile processing services.

Position Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterile processing department, under the guidance of the sterile processing department supervisors and manager.
This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, high level disinfected, marked for repair and placed in a proper repair location, and communicate incomplete trays and missing items to management and OR immediately. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterile processing customers.
The Sterile Process Tech is part of the SEIU-113 Union - SEIU will offer competitive wages for any prior experience in Sterile Processing or related fields. Please list any prior experience on your resume.

Required Qualifications:
Central Service/Sterile Processing/or Surgical Technology program certification with hands-on clinical experience
or
1 year of central service/sterile processing/surgical technology experience.
Word Processing knowledge, typing, data entry, strong communication skills - verbal and written.
The candidate will present current certification from either CBSPD: C.S.P.D.T. or HSPA (formerly known as IAHCSMM): C.R.C.S.T. or must attain one of these certifications within 18 months of hire.
The 18 month deadline will be the set on the same numbered day of the month as the hire date. For hire dates falling on the 31st, the deadline defaults to the last day of the 18th month.
This certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Park Nicollet team members who have been employed for 10 consecutive years prior to 2015 with no lapse in employment as Instrument Room Aide/Sterile Processing Department Technician (9AT) and/or Lead Sterile Processing Technician (116-030) will not be required to obtain certification

Job Description

Responsibilities:
The Sterile Processing Tech II must have thorough knowledge of aseptic techniques and procedures, sterilization techniques and procedures, infection control and work flow principles and requirements, equipment and supply processing; demonstrates and exercises responsible judgment to provide necessary supplies and equipment for the patient care areas.
To disassemble, decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and store procedure trays, instruments, and supplies according to prescribed procedure and aseptic technique.
Follows preference sheet to accurately dispense instruments and supplies to Surgery
This position requires daily flexibility to perform responsibilities, knowledge of routine policies and procedures and adherence of safety and infection control standards.
Demonstrates knowledge and use of the Tray Tracking computer system in assigned areas of the department.
Decontaminate, disinfect and/or sterilize surgical instruments in compliance with all established policies and procedures including infection control protocols.
Inspects, sorts, and processes surgical instrumentation in accordance to policy and procedures.
Reports and isolates damaged and missing items to Resource Coordinator and Manager.
Assembles and organizes surgical instrument sets according to instrument count sheets.
Prepares instrument trays for sterilization by appropriately wrapping or utilizing a sterilization container.
Performs quality assurance and biological testing on equipment and documents accordingly.
Operates ultrasonic cleaner, washer-decontaminator, heat-sealing apparatus, sterilizers and cart washers within established guidelines.
Maintains logs, prepares, checks and records test results. Approves or refuses materials from Sterilizer based on test results. Reports to management any adverse results.
Executes proper procedures for equipment malfunctions.
Prepares and delivers accurate and timely case carts for use in surgical procedures.
Responds to instrument and supply requests from customers in a timely manner.
Maintains a friendly, clean and orderly work environment.
Checks and reprocesses any expired items.
Accurately prepares and labels items for the appropriate method of sterilization.
Acts as a resource to other staff.
Maintains a working knowledge of all areas of the department by rotating through assigned work areas to ensure service needs of the customer are meet.
Maintains National or International Certification for Sterile Processing and Distribution. Assists in responsibility as a self-directed professional for continuing education.
Completes work from previous shift to accommodate department schedules.
Dispenses and delivers materials via dumbwaiter, tube system, elevator and/or handcarts.
Performs role of preceptor during training of new employees.
Communicates issues, problems and concerns to management in a timely manner.
Completes work from previous shift to accommodate department schedules.
Responsible for hand off communication to oncoming staff.
Ability to use established communication channels (i.e. Spectralink Phone) in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner, when coverage needed.

Schedule:
Hoffman Estate is an outpatient surgery center with varying day shifts. This is a full-time, Monday-Friday position with no weekends, no call, and holidays off. This is a PRN position as needed!
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Separate and prepare contaminated instrumentation for cleaning.
Prepare, install, assemble, clean, and sterilize/disinfect operating room or procedure room equipment and instrumentation and medical devices.
Decontaminate, process, sterilize/disinfect, and distribute medical supplies.
Inspect and perform functional checks on instrumentation/equipment to assure proper functioning prior to set/tray assembly.
Process, wrap, and label all equipment and instrumentation for sterilization using appropriate wraps and containers.
Perform proper documentation as it relates to the sterilization/HLD process.
Perform all duties relating to daily maintenance for all types of sterilizers/re-processors.
Communicate departmental equipment and supply needs to appropriate supervisor.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:

Completion of Sterile Processing education from an accredited school or training program
