The Environmental Services (EVS) Department at MD Anderson's Cancer Center plays a critical role in patient care that goes far beyond traditional cleaning. EVS professionals are responsible for thorough cleaning, sanitization, and disinfection in patient rooms, operating suites, waiting areas, and all areas of the hospital. EVS teams use specialized knowledge, precision, and discipline to create safe environments that support healing. Their attention to detail directly impacts patient outcomes, ensuring that medical providers can deliver care in the safest possible setting.
The primary purpose of Building Attendant II is to apply cleaning/housekeeping knowledge and skills to clean according to the given instructions.
The ideal candidate is a skilled Environmental Services professional with at least three years of custodial or building attendant experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM Monday - Friday and Weekends
Salary: 40,000.00 $ 46,000.00 $ 52,000.00
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Applies cleaning/housekeeping knowledge and skills to clean per given Work Instructions which may include:
a. Sweeping, mopping, trash removal, washing walls, floors ceilings and windows.
b. Operating electrical equipment such as vacuum cleaners and wet vacuum.
c. All surfaces are properly cleaned, products and equipment are removed and properly stored, and supplies are well stocked.
d. Must have proper coordination and motor skills to work with hand tools and electro-mechanical tools as job requires to perform assigned tasks.
e. Work in a bent or stooping position and occasionally crawl.
f. Performs patient room/exam room cleaning with time constraints in accordance with work instructions.
g. Capable of performing trash technician duties.
h. As required, follow proper procedures related to Joint Commission (covers trash during transportation and uses proper protective equipment).
i. As required, removal of all recyclable materials.
j. As required, maintain and cleans dock areas.
k. As required safe operation the TransVac System.
2. Learns and understands Service Level Agreements, departmental policies and procedures and carries them out through proper responses and quality outcomes to ensure customer satisfaction
a. Sets priorities and manages work and time through communication with team leaders, team members and customers to satisfy their requests.
b. Monitors own area and inspect work completed.
c. Always maintain hallways in a clear and safe manner.
d. Response to removal of hallway obstructions (standard: 15 minutes).
e. Communicate with customers in response to concerns and requests.
f. Verbal communication on an ongoing basis with customers to determine status of deliverables and to learn about customer needs.
g. Identifies and reports life safety deficiencies daily.
3. Must be able to communicate with co-workers in a clear, pleasant, and understandable manner.
a. Communicate with team members and team leaders on identified needs for improvement.
b. Collaborative effort with team members to solve problems and deficiencies.
c. Assists in training and development of other personnel.
d. Assist with staff supervision during the team leader's absence.
4. Must be able to work in a dusty environment, frequently in very cramped and unpleasant surroundings.
a. Some work may necessitate exposure to outside weather.
b. Must be able to walk from one area of the complex to another to visually inspect work to be performed.
5. Other duties as assigned.

Purpose
To perform the work of custodial maintenance while working as a team member, exercising good safety habits, and working with facilities supervisors to complete daily tasks.
Responsibilities
Apartments: Custodial cleaning duties include dusting, wiping, and cleaning all light fixtures and ceiling fans. Stripping and waxing VCT floors with 3 coats of wax and cleaning edges of floors. Thoroughly sweeping and moping vinyl plank floors. Cleaning the interior and exterior of all windows and wiping all window blinds clean. Wiping all cabinets, shelving A/C vents, and exhaust fans clean. Cleaning sinks, showers, and fixtures. Thoroughly cleaning stove and refrigerator units.
Laundry Room: Sweep and mop floors. Dust all surfaces including A/C and return air vents. Clean and wipe down all machines, washing machine soap trays, and interior and exterior windows. Bring trash pick-up and removal to the outside dumpster. On a monthly basis, laundry floors must be thoroughly scrubbed and cleaned in order to remove soap residue.
Maintenance and Inspections: Inspect apartments for maintenance needs and submit written work requests. Participate in Fire and Life Safety inspections four times a year in student apartments. Escort contractors and participate in fire extinguisher replacement. Maintain and keep cleaning supplies storage area and equipment organized. Clean machine rooms and respond to emergency cleaning issues at the University Apartments.
Office and Maintenance Shop: Clean breakroom, community rooms, community restrooms, maintenance shop, and inventory warehouse, including high dusting of office furniture and desks. Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, stalls, showers, and exhaust fan grills. Sweep, mop, and disinfect floors. Replenish tissue, soap, and bags as needed.
Communication: Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Communicate with supervisor, staff, and student residents regarding needed repairs and work order status. Follow through with written and oral instructions from supervisor.
Documentation and Safety: Complete all paperwork requested by supervisor. Ensure that all safety protocols are followed, properly report any unsafe conditions, and fill out the required report of injury form if injured.
Transportation/Equipment operation: Drive a UT vehicle to work site to transport equipment and supplies as needed to perform routine and preventive maintenance, and/or repairs.
Professional Development: Promote professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops.
Required Qualifications
Six months of commercial cleaning experience.
Six months experience working with commercial cleaning equipment such as floor care equipment.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
High school graduation or GED.
More than one year of janitorial experience in a large institution.
More than one year of experience with vacuum cleaners, buffers, and floor machines.
More than one year experience stripping and refinishing vinyl tile floors.
Experience in building services at the University of Texas.
Experience cleaning offices and/or apartments.
Experience inspecting apartments for maintenance needs and submit written work requests.
Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with verbal work related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-workers.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Purpose
Schedules and coordinates the work of groups of cleaning workers using standardized practices set by the University. Advises them of special assignments or changes in work routine. Hiring decision contingent upon applicant clearing a background check.
Responsibilities
Leadership: Abide by the work rules and set a good example. Schedule and coordinate the work of one or more groups of Assistant Building Attendant Leaders and Building Attendant II Teams. Maintain order and discipline. Receive and schedule work per client instructions and provide client feedback. Manage performance through observation, communication of goals and standards. Ensure employees comply with policies, procedures, work rules, and SOP.
Administration: Prepare documents such as: Key Logs, Security Logs, Time Reports, FAMIS, First Reports of Injury, Inspection Reports, Supply Orders, Attendance Records, Training Records, Performance Records, periodic and annual Evaluations, New Employee Orientation, etc. in accordance with organizational practice and procedures. Provide timely notice to management on matters of concern as indicated by Supervisor and/or SOP.
Quality Assurance: Ensure that services and event setups are delivered per schedule and/or work order. Conduct inspections of buildings; comply with procedures and standards; maintain and submit accurate paperwork. Conduct and document inspections and corrective action. Ensure timely reporting, submission, and follow-up of building maintenance and custodial issues. Provide timely and effective responses to client complaints (including off shift visits, when necessary).
Train employees on cleaning, work procedures, safety, policies, and work rules using both classroom and individual training methods. Direct quarterly rotation of and training for specific BAII/ABAL duties, including Restroom Specialist, Light Duty Specialist, Vacuum Specialist, and Utility Specialist. Attend and participate in training. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of records. Conduct employee orientation for both new and current employees. Meet training deadlines.
Safety and Repair: Adhere to safety guidelines and maintain safe working conditions. Report and correct unsafe conditions and repairs to the BSS, FCMS, and FAMIS with detailed documentation. Ensure preventive maintenance and inspections follow SOP. Keep custodial lockers free of unauthorized products and compliant with the Authorized Products List. Organize and respond to floods and emergency clean-ups. Operate custodial equipment safely.
Security: Secure all doors and arm alarms per procedures. Follow building and room lock/unlock schedules. Manage keys, access cards, and alarm codes. Report security concerns to UTPD. Maintain and conduct quarterly equipment inventories, ensuring proper security. Report any loss or damage immediately to UTPD and management
Emergency cleaning including removal and cleanup of blood borne pathogens. Reports repairs as needed. Schedules and staffs events. Holds meetings with staff. Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Required education: high school diploma or GED. Experience following basic work instructions. Two years of experience in any one of the following fields: custodial, environmental services, hospitality, warehouse, production, or facilities services. Experience in a supervisory capacity. The ability to read and understand work orders, instructions, product labels, product directions, and other written job materials. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Good communication skills, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills. Basic computer skills. Ability to write simple correspondence and fill out standard forms. Ability to work according to standardized processes. Stable work history. Strong attendance record. Must have a reliable means of communicating with the department outside of work by phone.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred education: associate degree or bachelor's degree. Experience supervising custodians in an OS1 cleaning environment. More than one year supervisory experience. Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills. Advanced writing skills. Working knowledge of safety and sanitation measures appropriate for custodial work. Basic computer skills. Successful completion of the advanced OS1 Comprehensive Certification Program.

Responsible for custodial cleaning work in a building or buildings according to a specific schedule and/or OS1 Team Cleaning procedures. Keeps premises of academic buildings in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.
Responsibilities
General Cleaning
Quality-Works according to established procedures using prescribed equipment.
Quantity-Maintains work schedule as assigned. Willingly accepts work assignments.
Overtime: before and after shift, weekend, holiday, and emergency response
Follow work rules outlined in employee orientations and relevant policies. Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the uniform policy. Be dependable, arrive on time, and work well with others or independently. Accept work assignments and supervision. Avoid formal discipline within the evaluation period. Demonstrate job knowledge and proficiency. Attend scheduled training and follow all provided guidelines.
Safety
• Have no lost time injuries due to unsafe work practices or failure to follow procedures.
• Regularly use PPE, safety shoes and safety equipment.
• Perform all tasks within established safety guidelines as instructed.
• Report unsafe conditions in a timely manner..
Security
• Secure buildings and rooms on schedule and/or after cleaning as appropriate.
• Follow correct unlocking, locking and alarm procedures as instructed.
• Follow key control/access card procedures and guidelines.
• Carry UT ID at all times during work hours.
Perform Work Orders: Provide on-duty cleaning and event support. Perform set up of table linens and other items for special events.
Respond to Emergencies: Clean up after emergencies such as floods.
Perform Overtime: Mandatory overtime may be required with little or no advance notice.
Substitute: Fills in for absent co-workers as requested.
Emergency cleaning, Report repairs as needed, Work events as requested, Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Six months of experience in custodial maintenance work.
Preferred Qualifications
High school graduation or GED.
More than one year custodial experience.

Purpose
To perform custodial maintenance tasks in a team cleaning environment. Perform specialized rotating duties as restroom specialist, utility specialist, light duty specialist and vacuum specialist. Be a positive representative for Custodial Services. Anticipated schedule is Mon-Fri 4:00PM to 12:30AM SHIFT and alternating weekends (Sat and Sun), including Holidays. Responsibilities
Work in the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library and Museum performing general cleaning according to schedule, instructions, and team cleaning procedures.
Rotate duties for all team cleaning positions: Vacuum Specialist, Light Duty Specialist, Utility Specialist, and Restroom Specialist.
Perform hard floor care and stripping/refinishing procedures, and carpet cleaning procedures using commercial custodial equipment.
Empty trash/recycling, vacuum with a back-pack vacuum, perform general cleaning tasks, mop, dust, clean and restock restrooms, and change light bulbs.
Secure buildings and rooms on schedule and/or after cleaning. Follow correct unlocking, locking, and alarm procedures. Follow key control/access card procedures. Carry UT ID at all times during working hours.
Adhere to prescribed safety and custodial procedures.
Perform set ups for special events. Provide emergency response and clean up for floods and other custodial emergencies.
Fill in as required for other team members or in other Specialist positions.
Required Qualifications

Purpose
Responsible for unlocking and locking exterior door and classrooms, and custodial cleaning work in academic buildings. Usually works in a large assigned area with frequent group work and/or special assignments in addition to the assigned area.
Responsibilities
Unlock and lock exterior doors and classrooms according to schedule and with a high level of accuracy. Abide by key control and alarm procedures. Driving University owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this and most other functions.
Perform general cleaning in all university facilities according to schedule and using safe and prescribed procedures. Service and restock restrooms. Respond to custodial requests and emergencies. Fill in as required for other crew members.
Communicate effectively with clients on cleaning issues. Use two-way radios.
Use custodial equipment to include back pack vacuum and wet dry vacuum.
Perform set ups for special events. Pick up linens after events.
Provide emergency response and clean up for floods and other custodial emergencies.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Six month experience in any of the following fields: custodial, hospitality, environmental services, warehouse, production of facilities maintenance. Experience following basic work instructions. Ability to follow verbal instructions. Must be able to communicate via two-way radio. Basic reading skills in order to understand work orders, product labels, and other written job materials. Stable work history. Strong attendance record. Ability to walk 3 to 5 miles daily.
Must have a reliable means of communicating with the department outside of work by phone.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
High school, GED or higher. More than six months experience in any of the following fields: custodial, hospitality, environmental services, warehouse, production or facilities maintenance. Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
