Position Scope This is an in-office position that works out of the Gurnee, IL manufacturing site that reports directly to our Engineering Director. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This position is very much one of being a working supervisor. While supervising contracted personnel, both professional and hands-on, the individual is expected to maintain a sizable project load. Direct or oversight responsibility for many of the capital projects undertaken at Vantage Oleochemicals. The normal flow of events in a project may include: completion of project design and developing a firm cost estimate, firm project design and a commitment on equipment, developing bid packages and going to contractors for bids on equipment and installation, coordinating and checking the actual construction, start-up and modifications of finished equipment and an Advice of Physical Completion for the project, and recommending routing maintenance, spare parts, listing necessary information and a financial closing (over or under estimate and why). May act as a Field Construction Manager or, in some cases, the Commissioning Manager. In the area of technical assistance, the incumbent investigates problems of a production, maintenance or technical nature, such as equipment failure or a process bottleneck. Problem Solving: Study existing situations (equipment, processes, manufacturing procedures, etc.), considering possible improvements or modifications, and preparing reports complete with conclusions and recommendations as a result of studies. Incumbent plans or assist in planning the approach to projects or segments of projects assigned by supervisor and for plant turnarounds. When assigned complete responsibility for small projects, supervises and participates in all aspects of the projects from inception to start-up (designs, estimates, calculations, test runs, etc.) and resolves all problems encountered. Key Responsibilities * Develops, executes and/or manages engineering projects at the site to meet the proper efficiency, time, scope, budget, quality, and stakeholder satisfaction. * Provide input for process modifications and/or modifications of existing operation, and develop business cases as appropriate. * Delivers the site capex investment plan in accordance with agreed site priorities. * Provide PLC troubleshooting support to site operations. * Identify opportunities and make suggestions for improvement in production process. * Functional excellence in HSE policies, project management, construction management and contractor management. * Executes applicable AkzoNobel policies, guidelines, processes, methodologies, working methods and systems. * Ensures projects and documentation are compliant with all local, state and national regulations (eg. OHSA PSM, NFPA, etc…). * Drives collaboration and engagement with all levels of the site for design, constructing and implementing improvement projects. * Ensures operator buy-in on process improvement projects. * Responsible for safe delivery of projects through correct management of contractors and third parties. * Effectively engages with key site stakeholders (and other levels) to manage expectations on site (handover, training). Job Responsibilities * BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering * 3-5 years of applicable project or process engineering experience, ideally in a paint or chemical factory * Experience designing and selecting equipment for Class 1 Div 1 environments * Experience with PTW, MOC and PSM requirements * Experience with PLC / Automation / OT Infrastructure * Ability to climb stairs wearing steel-toed footwear * Ability to work in hot and cold environments and inclement weather * Ability to work in a heavy manufacturing environment with limited exposure to chemical agents Experience Base salary range for this role is: $84,000 to $96,000. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
