Testing modalities include Transthoracic Echocardiography, Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Cardiac Stress testing. On-Call is required.
Essential Job Functions
* Performs high quality diagnostic echocardiography examinations using ultrasound testing equipment to evaluate the heart during Transthoracic Echocardiography, Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Cardiac Stress testing examinations and adheres to exam protocols except when deviation is clinically necessary.
* Prepares patients for procedures, including explaining the procedure and providing instructions in order to obtain the desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize patient anxiety.
* Administers imaging enhancement agents in accordance with department policies.
* Contacts referring physician (or other appropriate medical personnel) for clarification prior to performing an exam if there is a suspicion that the exam order is incorrect.
* Utilizes the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, enter preliminary reporting, and document any critical findings in accordance with department policy.
* Completes assigned tasks in a time frame appropriate for the situation.
* Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the Mission and Values of organization and adheres to the standards and policies set forth by the corporate responsibility program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to Manager (or Corporate Responsibility line) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts of practice.

Job Overview:
This position is responsible for performing Transthoracic Echocardiograms, TEE, Stress Echo and Doppler, etc., as well as processing corresponding paperwork and charging. This position also participates in the training, direction, and education of new technologists and students when applicable, and participates in quality and process improvement activities.
Job Responsibilities:
Works with the cardiologists/Lead Techs to ensure that the quality standards are being met. Reports any equipment, PACS, or report data issues. Ensures patient safety.
Timely processing and verification of images and accompanying paperwork and/or computer work such as echo measurements, data entry into reports, critical findings, charging, etc.
Helps with other department duties as necessary: works with nurses, technicians, and clerical staff and is a team player. Takes call if applicable.
Demonstrates competency: Provides clear and accurate technical images. Takes appropriate and accurate measurements. Able to inject Echo contrast and Agitated Saline per protocol and image appropriately. Conveys to the physician any necessary information.
Answers phone promptly and communicate with all customers appropriately. Seeks resolutions to requests, whether adding additional testing or needing reports. Explains delays to patients.
Other Job-Related Information:
Wearing lead aprons for all procedural Echo testing that is required within and/or near X-Ray Generating Equipment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES * Perform Cardiac Ultrasound Exams - Prepare patients and/or parents psychologically and physically for echocardiogram. Perform the cardiac ultrasound examination as ordered by the physician, including M-MODE, 2D Doppler and Color Flow Mapping 3D and strain.
* Report and Analyze Exam Results - Provide a verbal report to the Echocardiography Faculty. * Equipment - Maintain equipment by cleaning scan heads and Electrocardiogram (EKG) lead wires after each patient and following the guidelines of the infection disease committee.
* Teamwork - Share knowledge and provide technical support for one another. Assume on-call responsibilities for Neonatal External Intensive Care Units at external hospital partnerships and others as directed. Assist with the training of cardiology fellow or visitors.
* Research - May participate in clinical research related to cardiovascular disease. Measure and analyze echocardiographic data for research projects. Prepare and present findings in selected forums; at cardiology, echocardiography and sonographers meetings; at meetings of potential funding sources (such as industry and The American Heart Association); at meetings of non-experts interested in medical research (students and journalists). Prepare and present scientific reports (abstracts, manuscripts and articles) and manuals.

**Primary Function/General Purpose of Position**

+ Administers imaging enhancement agents in accordance with department policies.
+ Contacts referring physician (or other appropriate medical personnel) for clarification prior to performing an exam if there is a suspicion that the exam order is incorrect.

Job Responsibilities:
Works with the cardiologists/Lead Techs to ensure that the quality standards are being met.
Reports any equipment, PACS, or report data issues.

Timely processing and verification of images and accompanying paperwork and/or computer work such as echo measurements, data entry into reports, critical findings, charging, etc.
Helps with other department duties as necessary: work with nurses, technicians, and clerical staff and is a team player.

This position may exist in hospital imaging departments or in the perinatal specialty area and works under the general direction of the physician and/or supervision of the manager or supervisor. In hospital imaging, the ultra sonographer demonstrates competencies in a combination of breast, prostate, neonatal heads, body, abdominal, head/neck and interventional ultrasound, performing ultrasound examinations in accordance with ACR guidelines and protocols. In the perinatal specialty, demonstrates competencies in a variety of OB procedures, performing ultrasound examinations in accordance with AIUM guidelines and protocols. In the mammography specialty, must demonstrate competencies in breast ultrasound, perform ultrasound guided procedures, and prefer a GXMO to perform DEXA. In all areas, the ultra sonographer is responsible for performing quality ultrasound exams, maintaining accurate records and documenting in the EMR, maintaining a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental team members, quality assurance/quality control, working effectively with patients and families to provide patient care, complies with infection prevention procedures, student education, orientation of new employees, ensures operation of ultrasound equipment by adhering to standard operating procedures and by troubleshooting and reporting malfunctions to leadership, assists clerical staff in the maintenance of records and files, maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, and other duties as assigned. Travel to additional locations may be required. This position is required RDMS in the appropriate field and must meet the minimum continuing education requirements of the registry and ACR/AIUM as appropriate.

CardiacSonographer Registered - Lorain Hospital
This is a PRN "As Needed" Position
Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The CardiacSonographer performs diagnostic, non-invasive and invasive cardiac exams on patients using ultrasound testing equipment to evaluate the heart. Testing modalities include Transthoracic Echocardiography, Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Cardiac Stress testing. On-Call is required.
Essential Job Functions
Performs high quality diagnostic echocardiography examinations using ultrasound testing equipment to evaluate the heart during Transthoracic Echocardiography, Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Cardiac Stress testing examinations and adheres to exam protocols except when deviation is clinically necessary.
Prepares patients for procedures, including explaining the procedure and providing instructions in order to obtain the desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize patient anxiety.
Administers imaging enhancement agents in accordance with department policies.
Contacts referring physician (or other appropriate medical personnel) for clarification prior to performing an exam if there is a suspicion that the exam order is incorrect.
Utilizes the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, enter preliminary reporting, and document any critical findings in accordance with department policy.
Completes assigned tasks in a time frame appropriate for the situation.
Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the Mission and Values of organization and adheres to the standards and policies set forth by the corporate responsibility program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to Manager (or Corporate Responsibility line) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts of practice.

Licensing/Certification
Credentialed in echocardiography by one of the following organizations required at date of hire: Registered Diagnostic CardiacSonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), or Registered CardiacSonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
Education
Associates degree in a applied health science field with a concentration in cardiovascular technology, ultrasonography or other related study (preferred)
Work Experience
Minimum of one year of experience as a CardiacSonographer (preferred)
