Mercy Health St. Rita?s General Surgery in Lima, Ohio is seeking a certified physicianassistant to join our busy general surgery practice. This provider will play a critical role in delivering high quality care to surgery patients across the continuum from initial evaluation through recovery.

Highlights:
Serve as an integral member of the surgical team ? collaborating with surgeons, intensivists, emergency department physicians and nursing staff to provide exceptional patient care.
Manage patients on the surgery service, perform clinical assessments, and participate in patient education and follow up care.
PALS and ACLS
Monday ? Friday work week including rounding 7 AM in hospital, respond to new floor consults and/or calls from hospital nursing staff regarding post op/follow up care.
o Two clinic days/week averaging 10-12 patients for post op care.
Call: Assist general surgeon on weekend call 1-2 monthly.
Experienced APCs and physicians will provide support and mentorship.
Busy 407 bed regional referral center with a catchment area of 480,000.
Education and Skills Required:
Current licensure with the state of Ohio as a PA-C.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:
Our Talented Advanced Practice Providers plan, evaluate, and implement high quality medical care with appropriate resource management to patients, both adults and children in cooperation with center physicians
Adheres to the service and courtesy standard of Prisma Health Urgent Care by delivering the highest standard of patient satisfaction at all times
Provides patient care within the respective clinical area which complies with the Professional Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations and University Hospitals Urgent Care policies and procedures
Provides and/or serves as a resource for patient/family and staff
Provides an authenticated report of all services rendered and maintains accurate and complete records in an acceptable manner
Completes necessary documentation and ensures communication to facilitate patient care and appropriate reimbursement

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Board Certified (or Board Eligible) and Licensed to practice medicine in the state of practice
Advanced degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or PhysicianAssistant program of study
Licensed Nurse Practitioner/PhysicianAssistant in accordance with the state of Ohio
Current DEA registration
Must be DOT certified
Experience with procedures including suturing and drainage of abscesses
Experience with reading diagnostic studies including x-rays and EKGs

Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing set forth by WellStreet Urgent Care
Experience in Urgent Care, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine preferred

Recommends potential means of growth and development for new and/or existing services within occupational medicine; promotes, supports, and engages in projects and activities which will develop or improve occupational medicine service delivery; attends required and recommended internal and external meetings; participates in development and presentation of educational programs for staff; and assists in the orientation process for new physicians, nurse practitioners, and physicianassistants.
Regularly calls client representatives upon seeing an employee/patient for initial injuries and change of duty status and meets with employers to discuss health and safety needs. Conducts workplace walk throughs and other on-site assessments; participates in the development and presentation of educational programs to employers; and promotes, supports, and engages in activities that will develop or improve occupational medicine services delivered to client companies.

With expertise spanning pediatric and adult congenital care, our surgeons perform approximately 600 cardiothoracic surgeries each year, including 15-20 heart, lung, and multi-organ transplants annually. Families travel from more than 48 states and 22 countries to receive care from our world-renowned Heart Institute team.
Position Highlights
We are seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP with CRNFA) or PhysicianAssistant (PA) to join our Cardiothoracic Surgery team. In this role, you will function as a vital member of a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary care team delivering exceptional, family-centered care.
Schedule & Coverage
* Shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
* Schedule: Requires flexibility to meet patient care, including weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage
* Hours: Average 40 hours per week
* Scheduling is managed in 6-week time blocks:
* Two weeks of four 12-hour shifts
* Four weeks of three 12-hour shifts
Key Responsibilities
* Provide care for cardiothoracic surgery patients across the continuum
* Participate in outpatient clinics, including pre-operative evaluations
* Round on inpatients and manage post-operative care
* Assist in the operating room, including first assist responsibilities as applicable
* Participate in weekday and weekend call rotation
* Respond on-site for emergent cases as required
* Collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, nursing, and ancillary teams
Qualifications
* Licensed Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) with CRNFA certification or licensed PhysicianAssistant (PA)
* Eligible for or holding Ohio licensure
* Previous cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, or complex inpatient experience strongly preferred
* Ability to thrive in a high-acuity, fast-paced surgical environment

Formulate, document and monitor a treatment plan. Order and monitor therapeutic interventions including but not limited to diets, laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests as deemed necessary by patient history and/or physical exam. Provide clinical consultation, order interdisciplinary consults. Professional practice including but not limited to prescription of medications in accordance with Federal and State Law & Rules and CCHMC policy. Attains and maintains competency in subspecialty practice, skills and procedures in accordance with Joint Commission standards for focused (FPPE) and ongoing (OPPE) professional practice evaluation.
* Outcomes Identification and Planning- Develops outcomes as measurable goals that provide direction for continuity of care & continuity of care & consistency among providers. Develops, prioritizes, evaluates & modifies an individualized comprehensive plan of care. Addresses each diagnosis or issue, as appropriate. Derives outcomes & plans of care that involve the patient/family/caregiver when possible & are realistic to the patient/family/caregiver capabilities & resources. Considers risks/benefits, costs, clinical effectiveness, current scientific evidence/clinical guidelines & clinical expertise to formulate interventions, treatments & outcomes. Incorporates new knowledge & strategies to initiate change in practice if desired outcomes not achieved. Maintains documentation & updates accordingly outcomes, goals & the plan of care.
* Professional Practice- Maintain professional behaviors aligned with core values and care standards, participate in quality improvement activities or research to improve the care delivery process & patient care outcomes. * Evaluation- Uses a systematic, ongoing evaluation of the assessment data & outcomes to revise or resolve the diagnoses, outcomes, the plan of care, & the implementation as needed; Evaluates the accuracy of the diagnosis, effectiveness of the interventions & the plan of care strategies in relation to attainment of expected outcomes; Includes the patient/family/caregiver & other healthcare providers; Bases the evaluation process on advanced knowledge, practice, research, & documents appropriately; Utilizes the results of the evaluation to determine the impact on the patient/family/caregiver, organization, & system to make/recommend process or structural changes including policy, procedure, or protocols as appropriate.
