Job Summary:
The PoliceOfficer provides internal and external safety/police functions to support the general safety of BSMH facilities to include participation in investigations and arrests when warranted. Policeofficers are assigned to an area and responds to radio and/or telephone calls for routine and/or emergency assistance.
Essential Functions:
* Protects patients, visitors and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and mitigating environment of care safety hazards.
* Deters criminal activity through routine patrols of all hospital property to include all parking lots and decks.
* Enforces policies e.g. parking regulations, visitation policies, drug enforcement, and tobacco free/smoking policy.
* Monitors hospital activity on closed circuit television to be alerted to any escalating situations that may require protective services involvement.
* Intervenes in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate.
* Documents all duties performed to include completion of daily activity logs and incident reports.
* Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation and internal and external disaster plans.

* Maintain strong technical skills in radio communication, report writing, surveillance systems, and access control software, with the ability to accurately document incidents and coordinate effectively with clinical teams and law enforcement.
Soft/Interpersonal Skills:
* Effective communication, active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution.
Training:
* Non-violent crisis intervention training (required within 6 months of hire)

Job Overview:
Officers must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Responsibilities to include: Patrol buildings and grounds to deter/prevent law and policy violations. Post-up at specific locations when assigned. Maintain communications with the Communications Center and other Protective Services personnel by two-way radio, phone and other communication devices. Ensure that only authorized personnel are admitted onto hospital premises; contact unauthorized persons to determine service needs, ask questions, re-routing or detainment appropriate to the facts known at the time. Report safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections; look for violations of the Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA and Fire Code safety violations. Officers may be assigned On-Call responsibilities and may be reassigned to other locations and work schedules including weekends and holidays as needed to fulfill mission of department. ?Respond to and investigate routine and/or urgent complaints reported by patients, parents, visitors and team members and implement service recovery as appropriate. File appropriate documentation by the end of the shift. Conduct follow-up investigations as directed and file appropriate reports by the end of the shift. Pass on information to others during shift huddles. ?Emergency Response to distress calls, panic alarms and emergency calls for disorderly conduct, disruptive persons or combative patients within 3 minutes of activation. Assist clinical staff with patient restraint; monitor combative or potentially combative patients as directed. Physically restrain patients as instructed by the appropriate clinical staff members. Respond to safety emergencies; evaluate the situation and act appropriately with TriHealth policy guidelines. Serve as a source of authority; constantly maintain high visibility. Provide help in times of emergency and stress. Act as liaison and partner with police and fire agencies as needed. ?Direct traffic within TriHealth campuses and control parking of all patients, parents, visitors and team members. Enforce hospital parking rules and issue parking violations to illegally parked vehicles. Escort patients, parents, visitors and team members to and from parking areas as needed. Control access for TriHealth entities and perform all necessary locking and unlocking within the various buildings and grounds. Enter and maintain current information in all Security logs and forms. Act as a resource of information for patients, parents, visitors and team members. Provide information, including directions and parking. Enforce TriHealth policies and procedures.
Job Requirements:
High School Degree or GED
1-2 years Technical experience in Criminal Justice, Private Security, Police experience or Military preferred
Excellent commnication and customer service skills
Current Private Security handgun certification or ability to obtain certification within 45 days of hire
Valid Driver's License with no more than 4 driving points recorded on a motor vehicle report
No prior DUI/DWI convictions within the last 5 years
No major moving violations convictions

Takes reports of vehicular accidents, criminal offenses and suspicious activity occurring on hospital property.
Maintains the facility's lost and found. Secures valuable property to ensure that it is not lost, tampered with, or stolen. May be required to transport money to and from designated bank. Morgue pickups and release to Funeral Homes and Coroner. Assist with the air ambulance landing.
Monitor and review security cameras and alarms.

Job Requirements:

Essential Job Functions
Assigned patrol within facilities and the campus property including parking areas to maintain a police presence while being on alert for criminal activity and/or the need for assistance. Provides the police services for the facility. Assisting stranded motorist with minor automobile problems. Assists visitors as needed.
Responds to calls for assistance and emergencies. Takes appropriate control of dangerous situations by using sound judgement and quick thinking. Assist the medical staff in restraining a patient as necessary. Performs BLS as needed. Serves as first responder to fire alarm activations, chemical spills and Code Blue and Rapid Responses in Public Areas.
Conducts preliminary investigations in hospital related incidents related to visitors and patients. Works closely with local law enforcement agencies when the need arises, Maintains accurate records of daily activities. Reports all unusual incidents and criminal activity on incident reports. Takes reports of vehicular accidents, criminal offenses and suspicious activity occurring on hospital property.
Maintains the facility's lost and found. Secures valuable property to ensure that it is not lost, tampered with, or stolen. May be required to transport money to and from designated bank. Morgue pickups and release to Funeral Homes and Coroner. Assist with the air ambulance landing.
Monitor and review security cameras and alarms.
Other duties assigned by the Chief of Police.
Required Minimum Education:

2 Year/ Associates Degree
Licensure/Certification Required:

This job description operates in accordance with established International Association of Hospital Safety and Security Management (IAHSS) guidelines and best practices.
**SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:**
· Protects patients, visitors and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and eliminating environment of care safety hazards.
· Deters vandalism, theft and property abuse through routine patrols of all hospital property to include inside areas as well as all parking lots and decks.
· Enforces hospital policies e.g. parking regulations, visitation policies, , and tobacco free/smoking policy.
· Monitors hospital activity on closed circuit television to be alerted to any escalating situations that may require security involvement.
· Intervenes in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate.
· Advises dispatcher of any and all duties performed. Completes appropriate documentation of various incidents.
· Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation and internal and external disaster plans.
· Responds to emergency situations and hospital alarms as designated.
· Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Completion of IAHSS Basic Training Module within 90 days post new hire.
· Remains on assigned post and completes all post specific duties. Ensures that post and police vehicles remain clean, neat and free of all non-work-related material.
· Follows organizational hospital policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
· Maintains and presents self in professional manner at all times when on duty.
**ESSENTIAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:**

**EDUCATION** :
· High School Diploma required.
· Current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certificate of completion Academy Training./or OPOTA Armed Security Officer Certificate
· Associate and/or bachelor's degree preferred.
· I.A.H.S.S. Basic Training and Certification for Healthcare Security Officer within one year of hiring.
**EXPERIENCE:**
· Minimum 1-2 years on the job law enforcement / criminal justice /military training preferred.
**ESSENTIAL CERTIFICATIONS:**
· Valid Ohio driver's license.
· Successfully qualify with duty weapons as directed to maintain State and/or Departmental requirements.
· Successfully qualify with an ECD per Protective Services Department policy and procedure.
· Successfully complete AED-CPR training as per Protective Services Department policy and procedure
**PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT**
Must comply with Police Department requirements related to protective equipment, body cameras and body armor.
**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:**

Must be familiar with LEADS and NCIC computer functions **.**
· How to request this service from a Police Agency.
· Must maintain current OPOTA status and take refresher and additional classes as they become mandatory.
