Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Unit Secretary provides clerical support to the nursing unit. As a member of the nursing unit, the Unit Secretary conducts themselves to promote an organized and positive culture on the unit.
Essential Functions:

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Unit Hospitality Associate serves as a liaison between patient, family, hospital staff, and physicians to ensure a favorable patient experience in the areas of patient and family comfort, information-sharing from hospital and clinical staff, responsiveness to patient or family inquiries or concerns, and assisting clinical staff in timely patient discharge. The Unit Hospitality Associate is responsible performing unit-receptionist activities and accountable for routine clerical activities on a nursing unit.
Essential Job Functions
Performs unit-receptionist activities including but not limited to:
coordinates incoming, outgoing, and intra-unit communications;
handles customer requests;
may determine room assignments for patients, inter-unit transfers, BCA, lift batteries, blanket warmer, cardiac monitors, maintains patient /family education information/brochures.
Coordinates the ordering of supplies per par levels.
Answers unit telephones courteously and quickly addresses the caller's needs. Observes and initiates maintenance requisition to repair equipment, furniture, and building fixtures.
Communicates patient clinical requests to nursing staff.
Transports ambulatory/wheelchair patients as directed by the RN.
Assists with patient discharge/transfer processes functions in STAR (or similar program) or as appropriate.
Manages physician consultations and charts accordingly in Epic Care PATH. Greets physician on the unit.
Introduces physician to new associates.
Locates patient's nurse for physician when necessary.
Coordinates clinical data collection via fax, printers, and tube system, and assures that documentation is placed in paper-light chart and/or distributed to appropriate personnel.
Maintains paper-light chart.
Obtains chart forms for patient transfers, patient consents, blood permits, etc. as needed or requested.

As part of the TriHealth system, the unit offers comprehensive care for individuals with arrhythmias, heart failure (with an upcoming LVAD program), and those undergoing procedures such as pre/post cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology interventions, and structural heart procedures including WATCHMAN and MitraClip. 4100 Telemetry Unit focuses on chronic heart conditions (Congestive Heart Failure, early LVAD potential).
Our team of highly trained nurses and clinicians provide continuous monitoring and specialized care for NSTEMI patients, heart failure management, and post-procedural recovery. With a focus on advanced electrophysiology, we care for patients requiring pacemakers, ablations, and defibrillators.
The 4100 Tele Unit takes pride in delivering evidence-based, compassionate care, ensuring the best outcomes through our commitment to patient-centered treatment and the latest medical technologies. 4100 Tele Unit works extremely close with our ICUs and is a great pathway to grow in Critical care. Job Overview:
This position performs clerical duties as well as maintaining skills necessary to observe and interpret central cardiac monitors. This position requires the interpersonal skills to communicate with respect and compassion to customers: communications information through various telecommunication devices; and assists in coordinating patient flow.

Successful completion of basic cardiology course, including 40 hours of clinical orientation

Maintains confidentiality. Takes an active role in maintaining patient satisfaction (i.e. way-finding, quick response to call lights and phones, etc.).
Demonstrates ability to appropriately respond to and prioritize work. Removes medications from the tube system and places in appropriate locked cabinet. Responds appropriately to emergency situations (i.e. Code Blue, Rapid Response Team, fire, Special Alert). Demonstrates knowledge/use of emergency systems, policies and procedures. Performs computer down time procedures according to unit/TriHealth guidelines.

Responsibilities of the monitor reader: Accurately observes and interprets the central cardiac monitors. Is aware of the location of all monitored patients during the shift. Accurately maintains the cardiac monitor log with strips, intervals and interpretations at designated times as well as prn. Recognizes emergency rhythms and notifies appropriate personnel. Notifies the RN in accepted timeframe of changes in the patient rhythm or if arrhythmia occurs. Documents any change per unit standard. Maintains alarms at all times, and immediately reviews alarms and makes cardiac monitoring the first priority. Notifies appropriate nursing personnel or clinical engineering of any problems not resolved by unit trouble shooting. Maintains equipment, logs and telemetry supplies per unit protocol.

Unit: Gastroenterology/Colorectal Surgery (A4S) - this unit specializes in the care of gastroenterology and colorectal surgery patients of all ages. Hours and Shifts: 24 hours per week, night shifts Training: Training is at least a week during the day.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Clerical Duties - Operates and maintains unit information systems to include-medical record integrity, forms management, timely response to faxes, printed material, mail, and accuracy of patient data, timely completion of admissions, discharges, transfers and short stay documentation. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and accountability with respect to patient charges/rental equipment, CCHMC charge capture procedures, and ensures that unit maintains a designated par level of clerical supplies.
* Environmental Management - Ensures that within the division, all areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees. Maintains awareness of patient location and monitors traffic flow at the front desk and on the unit. Assists with compliance of visitor policies and applying arm bands for parents/caregivers. Reports maintenance (wiping down monitors, troubleshooting printer issues, logging off information, etc.) and environmental service needs to appropriate division and follows-up to assure completion. Collaborates with clinical, admitting, information systems and environmental services staff to coordinate efficient patient flow.
* Systems Management - Identifies system problems and utilizes strategies for resolutions. Responds to communication system/patient alarms and executes with a sense of urgency. Reviews and revises staffing information.
* Communication - Demonstrates the Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and co-workers by actively participating as a front-line example of extraordinary customer service and satisfaction; and interacts with parents/guardians to obtain non-clinical information as requested. Ensures and reviews timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information (i.e. HIPAA, Informed Consent, Advanced Directive for patients 18 or older) as defined by CCHMC's mission, applicable laws, and regulations. Has in-depth knowledge of HIPAA standards and fosters application to clinical practice.
To provide daily operational/administrative support for the unit and outpatient services. Functions as a resource for clinical personnel regarding unit and outpatient operational issues. Anticipate needs for department and provides coordination of information systems, environmental, admitting and clerical functions for patient areas of a medical center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents.

14AB is a medical unit with 22 beds. Our patient population consists of adult and geriatric patients with varied medical diagnoses including complications from diabetes, pneumonia, cellulitis, encephalopathy, and remote telemetry. We also care for renal and urology surgery patients including those who have had a nephrectomy, prostatectomy, transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and those with continuous bladder irrigation (CBI). Any patients admitted to the hospital who require peritoneal dialysis (PD) treatments, have PD care managed by a trained 14AB nurse. This unit supports the growth and learning of new grads. 14AB provides the opportunity to master time management, and a variety of skills such as suprapubic catheter exchange, continuous bladder irrigation, vascath removal and peritoneal dialysis.

The 4100 Telemetry Unit at Bethesda North Hospital is a 38-bed stroke-certified unit specializing in the care of patients with complex cardiovascular and neurovascular conditions. As part of the TriHealth system, the unit offers comprehensive care for individuals with arrhythmias, heart failure (with an upcoming LVAD program), and those undergoing procedures such as pre/post cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology interventions, and structural heart procedures including WATCHMAN and MitraClip. 4100 Telemetry Unit focuses on chronic heart conditions (Congestive Heart Failure, early LVAD potential).
Our team of highly trained nurses and clinicians provide continuous monitoring and specialized care for NSTEMI patients, heart failure management, and post-procedural recovery. With a focus on advanced electrophysiology, we care for patients requiring pacemakers, ablations, and defibrillators.

Job Overview:
This position performs clerical duties as well as maintaining skills necessary to observe and interpret central cardiac monitors. This position requires the interpersonal skills to communicate with respect and compassion to customers: communications information through various telecommunication devices; and assists in coordinating patient flow.
Job Requirements:
High School Degree or GED
Successful completion of basic cardiology course, including 40 hours of clinical orientation
Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree
Job Responsibilities:
Maintains proficient knowledge of computer applications specific to unit/job (i.e. maintaining census, accurate scanning of documents). Is knowledgeable of the function/operation of equipment specific to the role on the unit.
Communicates appropriately and effectively with internal and external customers (i.e. staff, patients, families, other departments, etc.). Relays accurate and complete information. Maintains confidentiality. Takes an active role in maintaining patient satisfaction (i.e. way-finding, quick response to call lights and phones, etc.).
Demonstrates ability to appropriately respond to and prioritize work. Removes medications from the tube system and places in appropriate locked cabinet. Responds appropriately to emergency situations (i.e. Code Blue, Rapid Response Team, fire, Special Alert). Demonstrates knowledge/use of emergency systems, policies and procedures. Performs computer down time procedures according to unit/TriHealth guidelines.
Demonstrates/maintains knowledge of organizational and unit changes. Supports organizational and unit changes. Acknowledges need for self growth and accountability. Identifies areas for self improvement.
Responsibilities of the monitor reader: Accurately observes and interprets the central cardiac monitors. Is aware of the location of all monitored patients during the shift. Accurately maintains the cardiac monitor log with strips, intervals and interpretations at designated times as well as prn. Recognizes emergency rhythms and notifies appropriate personnel. Notifies the RN in accepted timeframe of changes in the patient rhythm or if arrhythmia occurs. Documents any change per unit standard. Maintains alarms at all times, and immediately reviews alarms and makes cardiac monitoring the first priority. Notifies appropriate nursing personnel or clinical engineering of any problems not resolved by unit trouble shooting. Maintains equipment, logs and telemetry supplies per unit protocol.
