Orders testing as deemed necessary and remains proficient in interpreting results and prescribing appropriate medication and therapeutic regimen within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner. These roles, undertaken in cooperation with nursing, staff physicians and other department staff, may include triage, telephone communication and patient education.
Job Duties
Assesses and establishes a presumptive diagnosis and implements treatment plans for their patient population.
Makes accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record; orders and interprets diagnostic testing and consults as appropriate and prescribes appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidenced based practice.
Prescribes, adjusts or discontinues medications or therapies as appropriate.
Evaluates and reports to collaborating physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present a significant risk to patient's health or well-being.
Performs procedures within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner license.
Communicates with collaborative physician, patient, PCP and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.
Instills confidence in patient acting as their advocate by providing safe, ethical care and health education to the patient and their family in a language that they can understand.
Interprets and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.

AHN Neuroscience Institute
Our Institute integrates renowned experts in the subspecialties of neurology, neuroradiology, neuro-critical care, and neurosurgery to offer leading-edge diagnosis and treatment for patients with the most complex neurological disorders across 7 hospitals throughout Western PA.
The Neuroscience Institute currently staffs over 25 neurosurgeons, 37 neurologists and 64 advanced practice providers who specialize in a myriad of neurosurgical disorders, including brain, spine and skull-based surgery, stroke, movement disorders, cranial nerve disorders, neuro-oncology, epilepsy, headache, neuromuscular disorders, dementia, and concussions to name a few. The Institute has a quaternary care facility within Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) in Pittsburgh PA, that includes a level 1 trauma center, and a level 2 trauma center located at Forbes Regional Hospital (FRH), located in Monroeville, Pa.
AHN's Neuroscience Institute is currently constructing a new ‘hub' at our flagship, Allegheny General Hospital, with plans to undergo a gradual opening of specialty clinics through 2026. Responsibilities
Perform pre-anesthetic assessments and evaluations of patients to determine their anesthesia needs and develop individualized anesthesia care plans.
Administer anesthesia according to established protocols and standards of care.
Monitor patients' vital signs and physiological responses throughout the perioperative period, adjusting anesthesia as necessary to ensure patient safety and comfort.
Manage anesthesia-related emergencies and complications promptly and effectively, collaborating with other healthcare providers as needed.
Provide post-anesthesia care as appropriate.
Document anesthesia care, patient assessment findings, and perioperative events accurately and comprehensively in the medical record.
Collaborate with providers, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes and ensure smooth perioperative care processes.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to regulatory requirements and accreditation standards related to anesthesia services.
Maintain proficiency in anesthesia techniques, equipment, and pharmacology through ongoing education and professional development activities.
Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety, ethical practice, and continuous improvement in all aspects of anesthesia care delivery.
Qualifications
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of PA and certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
Master's degree or higher from an accredited nurse anesthesia program.
Strong clinical skills and knowledge of anesthesia principles, techniques, and medications.
Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate anesthesia care independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
