Monterey Herald history

Files contain documents noting location, ownership (when available), construction dates, etc., for structures built in 1926 or earlier, located in Pacific Grove.

Since the 1930's, Carmel Librarians have been acquiring historical materials that were kept and used in the library's reference department.

From its founding in 1931, the Monterey History & Art Association’s primary mission has been to help preserve the irreplaceable reminders of Monterey’s colorful heritage.

Periodicals: N/A Photographic material: Photos of the Mission showing its decline, decay, and subsequent restoration in 1948-9; a few photos of manuscript pages; and some photographic copies of old drawings of Mission plans, water system, etc.

In 1967, the newspaper was bought by Block Communications.

Description: The Big Sur Historical Society was founded in 1978 to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Big Sur.

Pebble Beach Golf Links: The Official History by PBC Historian Neal Hotelling (Sleeping Bear Press, 1999), includes a general history of the company with a focus on the development of Pebble Beach Golf Links.

In 2005 the library began adding the Archival Collections of the California History Room to the PALS catalog.

Knight Ridder was later purchased by the Sacramento-based McClatchy Company in June 2006 in a deal valued at $4.5 billion.

Pebble Beach: The Official Golf History by PBC Historian, Neal Hotelling (Triumph Books, 2009), includes a general history of the company, the development of each of the courses, and a focus on the national, state and regional golf championships played on the courses.

Access: The History Center opened on December 7, 2013.
