1935

Whatever the project requires, Mulzer can supply it! A Family Business Since 1935 The story of Mulzer Crushed Stone is very much the story of success.

This spirit has made us the foremost producer of quality aggregate material in the Ohio River Valley, and helps us take care of our most important asset, the customer. It started in 1935 when Roland, Edgar and Arnold Mulzer, Sr. began building culverts for highway construction.

1946

The Mulzer Quarry just north of Eckerty, Indiana was opened in 1946.

1959

The Ohio Valley Co., a sand and gravel producer in Tell City, was purchased in 1959.

1962

In 1962, the Bedford-Nugent Company, a sand and gravel dredger, was acquired.

1963

The development of the Cape Sandy facility during 1963 was timed rather fortuitously to the upgrade of the “low dams” along the Ohio River.

1969

Mulzer Crushed Stone began to take on its present form in 1969 when Arnold and his five children formed a new partnership and acquired the shares of Mulzer owned by Roland and Edgar.

1970

Clarence Shamblin and his wife founded the company in 1970’s.

1978

By 1978, the old office building at 6th and Franklin, built on the old Ohio Valley site, was no longer adequate.

1983

Expansion continued in 1983 when Mulzer acquired the Crawford County Stone Co. located near Leavenworth, Indiana.

1987

Mulzer purchased the Charlestown, Indiana quarry from Martin-Marietta in 1987.

1990

When Shamblin Stone in West Virginia was acquired in March of 1990, Charlestown became a natural river supplier.

1996

The Abydel Quarry near Paoli, Indiana was opened in 1996.

1999

The Mulzer Company continued its growth in 1999 when it opened a new river quarry in Harrison County, Indiana.
