Nicc company history timeline

1967

On September 5, 1967, career education programs in Calmar began with 170 students enrolled in 12 programs.

1971

In 1971, career education programs in Dubuque began at several locations throughout the city including the Roshek building.

1973

The Nebraska Indian Community College was founded in 1973 as the American Indian Satellite Community College under a grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education.

1979

In 1979, the schools of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium, of which the Nebraska Indian Community College is a member, succeeded in persuading Congress to pass and fund Public Law 95-471, the Tribally Controlled Community College Act.

1994

In 1994, NICC was designated by federal legislation as a land grant institution.

2008

In 2008, the Town Clock Business Center in Dubuque was expanded to include a one-stop center with Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) and East Central Intergovernmental Association (ECIA).

2010

The Peosta campus currently includes the main building, the Gas Utilities and Construction building, a child development center, the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety and most recently the Industrial Technologies building, which opened in August 2010.

2020

In 2020, NICC also began collaborating with Pawnee Nation College in Pawnee, Oklahoma while they work towards their own accreditation.
