Position Description
Job Summary:
Peckham's paid Internship Program is designed to add practical, relevant experience to your field of study while welcoming you into our family by choice culture. The Safety Intern will support the Safety Team by assisting with key initiatives that enhance and maintain the company's safety programs. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience that will contribute to a future career in occupational health and safety.
Essential Functions:
Safety always wins. Assist in the review, enhancement, and maintenance of company safety programs and documentation to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Protect family and friends. Support the development, review, and standardization of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures by evaluating existing processes, identifying gaps, and helping ensure procedures effectively protect employees from hazardous energy sources.
Results matter. Maintain and update the electronic Safety Data Sheet (SDS) inventory by verifying accuracy, ensuring accessibility, and supporting compliance with standards across all operational sites.
Measurement. Contribute to the creation of standardized Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) designed for consistency while allowing flexibility for site-specific operations, improving usability and adoption across multiple locations.
Compulsive tinkering. Assist in developing electronic safety forms and site-specific training materials that enhance documentation accuracy, streamline reporting, and support employee understanding of safety requirements and safe work practices.
Honesty and truth. Participate in field-based safety assessments within road construction, quarry operations, and Hot Mix Asphalt plant environments to gain hands-on experience identifying operational hazards and observing real-world safety controls.
Mastery. Support hazard recognition and risk management efforts by identifying potential safety risks, documenting observations, and contributing to risk assessments and corrective action recommendations.
This internship is well-suited for students pursuing a bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or other related disciplines. Candidates should have a strong interest in workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and field-based safety practices.

Through a full-time, paid fellowship, participants learn essential on-the-job skills and once trained will run a full-service digital media studio delivering video production and audio engineering services. SCS leverages the explosive growth in the new media industry to bring economic empowerment to returning citizens, their families, and communities.
The SCS model is built on three pillars:
Experiential Learning: Program participants (“Fellows”) learn essential on-the-job skills by running a full-service digital media studio that will have on-site podcast and video production equipment.
Mentorship: Fellows will be paired one-on-one with a mentor who is an expert in their field. Fellows will spend time on-site at their mentor's company, learning their craft from a successful practitioner.
Job Placement: Once graduated from the program, Fellows will receive job placement assistance, coaching, and a bridge to employment through employer partnerships.
SCS' launch was covered in Forbes and Fast Company and coincided with a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $60,000 from more than 400 backers. We're nearing the end of our inaugural Fellowship program and will be preparing for our second cohort of Fellows in the late Spring.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
As Second Chance Studios builds out its core program (our Fellowship) and digital media studio-the first of its kind venture in the United States-the organization is looking to onboard interns to help drive this work forward while gaining impactful professional development.
Reporting directly to the Program Manager, interns will be responsible for various organizational projects and priorities. They will be multi-talented utility players on the team-building strong systems, collaborating with and learning from others, managing a variety of projects simultaneously, and learning to execute on a high level.

This is a part-time internship, working 5-20 hours/week maximum. While the role is normally based in New York, NY and requires consistent work at the studio, we are also currently offering remote internships.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with the team to develop relationships with corporate and community partners interested in supporting SCS through employment opportunities, donations, or in-kind support.
Conduct online research and compile data to support various initiatives and campaigns, including key partnerships in and adjacent to the criminal justice and reentry community.
Support intake and preparation for meetings with prospective funders and partners.
Design and deliver communications and marketing materials, including pitch decks, one-pagers, newsletters, the organization's Squarespace website, and other collateral.
Develop and oversee operational infrastructure, systems, and processes that ensure effective program delivery.
Manage the organization's social media strategy and create content for social media channels to increase support for SCS' work.
Collaborate on key projects such as studio procurement and design or organizational budget research.
Compile and enter data related to outreach and communication with supporters into Salesforce.
Assist with special projects, as assigned by the CEO, including event planning and more.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
First and foremost, interns must share the team's sense of urgency about the need to build meaningful opportunities for systems-impacted people, namely those who were formerly incarcerated. Undergraduate or graduate student in related area (GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred. but not required), recent grad, or someone who prefers hands-on learning to school

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Safety Coordinator Intern will provide support to office and field personnel located on various project sites. This person will also assist the Safety Department to enforce the Company Safety policies and procedures. In addition to the project site safety responsibilities, they shall participate in and complete all tasks assigned to them by the Safety Department.
RESPONSIBLITIES/DUTIES:
These responsibilities generally describe the nature of the position and may not be all inclusive:
Assist in the development and enforce the Safety Program and Site-Specific Safety and Health Plans.
Provides technical safety advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to all employees regarding Horwitz safety policies and procedures.
Responsible to stay updated in all necessary State and Federal rules and regulations relevant to our scope of work.
Assists the Safety Director, Safety Department with performing in-house training with regard to site safety and safety related regulations.
Assists with writing new company safety policies and procedures.
Assists with reporting, handling, and monitoring of workers compensation, property, and general liability insurance claims.
Assist in conducting new hire orientations for every new employee.
Conduct weekly site safety inspections on Horwitz job sites.
Assist in investigating all accidents, incidents, and near misses.
Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/ABILITES:
Entry to intermediate level knowledge of State and Federal environmental, health, and safety standards and regulations.
Intermediate knowledge of commonly used computer programs (MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude.
Uses time productively, maximize efficiency and meet challenging work goals.
Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Possess and maintain an exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Recent or expected graduate of an EHS related undergraduate degree program, preferred by June 1, 2025;
or a combination of both a minor in an EHS field and previous internship experience in construction safety;
OSHA 30 Certification preferred but not required. Ability to complete within first 10 days of employment.

As an Assistant Neighborhood Builder on our team, you will work under the assigned Neighborhood Builder to coordinate all site construction activities and supervise all Trade Partners as required to successfully complete the project on schedule. This includes maintaining the highest quality, supervising all trade and field personnel, while administering good construction safety practices with all job sites activities.
Responsibilities:
• Assisting in the supervising and directing all aspects of construction.
• Verify updates from Internal Preconstruction are complete and posted in Builder Trend.
• Receive Building Permit and post appropriate documentation to Builder Trend and Foundation trade partner.
• Populate Doc-Box with Plans, Surveys, Building Permit, Selections and Trade Partner Check list.
• Verify SWPPP practices are adhered to and in place.
• Review and update schedule tasks are representative of plans and selections.
• Review trade partner assignments are consistent with schedule tasks.
• Daily inspection of trade partner job site cleanliness and accountability measures.
• Assist in daily checklist accountability and trade partner compliance per scope of work.
• Assures that all work meets compliance per city or county requirements and building codes.
• Scheduling and attending required city inspections.
• Make recommendations to improve quality of work, correct any defects, resolve jobsite problems and delays and improve productivity for all Trade Partners.
• Assist in Builder Quality Walk with Quality Experience Manager
• Build relationships and communicate job progress with homeowners and New Home Sales Specialist using the Touch Point System.
• Review Field Production report weekly with Neighborhood Builder to verify integrity.
• Review Extra Work Authorization daily with Neighborhood Builder to populate the form in its entirety.
• Represent builder as site Assistant Neighborhood Builder, in a professional manner, with both Trade Partners and Homeowners.
• Create an unmatched customer experience at every interaction
Requirements
• Must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
• Organized and can complete projects in a timely manner.
• Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through and superior customer service.
• Must have the attitude and ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities and be able to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously with a professional, positive demeanor.
• Knowledge of residential building practices, able to read and understand blue prints.
Education and/or Experience:
• 2 or 4-yr college degree preferred but not required. Desirable study concentration in construction management.
• Experienced in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, quality control and production of all phases of residential construction.
