Prior work experience of six months is desired in order to gain familiarity on-the-job with administration of radiological testing. Should be familiar with most major models of radiological testing equipment. New x-ray technicians require period of 30 days in order to orient themselves to techniques and work area. 4. Good analytical skills necessary for handling of radiology patients during administration of diagnostic testing. Must be able to appropriately assess the correct action to take during testing, while being cognizant of patient well being. Must accurately monitor radiation exposure or potential for electronic shock, etc. 5. Good interpersonal manner important during delivery of patient care in order to ensure harmonious provision of radiological diagnostic examination. 6. Work requires manual dexterity for use of x-ray and other equipment and instruments. Light lifting of clinical supplies may be required. Adequate physical strength required for positioning of patients and equipment during examinations. May prepare to perform mammograms and venograms in accordance with training and certification. Sets up, cleans and adjusts x-ray equipment. Loads film, takes x-rays and unloads and transports film if necessary. May develop images using appropriate methods and equipment including computed radiography or direct radiography systems. Document and track all exams into RIS-Radiology Information System. Archive all procedures into PACS, insuring completeness and accuracy of all information. Provides patient orientation prior to examination session. Under supervision, performs or assists in performing routine radiological and fluoroscopic diagnostic evaluations in accordance with established clinical protocols. Positions patients in accordance with established and techniques. Operates and adjusts equipment, determining current settings and monitoring patient and employee radiation exposure and potential for electric shock; observes safety guidelines. Responds to patients' needs during testing. May assist in administering opaque media, loading power injector and handling catheters, guide wires and needles under aseptic technique. Properly labels films in accordance with defined procedures. May perform specialized diagnostic examinations as permitted by experience or registry. Provides related support functions as required. Scheduling exams, answering telephones for area and recording messages. Maintains clean work area and equipment and maintains full stock of applicable clinical supplies. Properly prepares contrast media as needed. Files film as required. Ensures good working order of equipment. Troubleshoots routine equipment problems or seeks technical assistance for equipment malfunctions, keeping chief technician appropriately informed. Performs other related duties as assigned or required as professional technologist. May assist with quality assurance/CQI tasks under supervision. Requirements: Job requires a minimum level of knowledge ordinarily acquired through completion of an Associates Degree or equivalent NYS-accredited training program in radiological technology in order to learn how to conduct skeletal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and chest examinations and familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and biology. Special training required to conduct examinations for certain areas such as mammography. Licensure by New York State Department of Health as Radiologic Technologist is mandatory. Certification required with ARRT (American Registry for Radiologic Technologists) for certain specialty examinations (e.g., mammography). Prior work experience of six months is desired in order to gain familiarity on-the-job with administration of radiologic testing. Should be familiar with most major models of radiological testing equipment. New x-ray technicians require period of 30 days in order to orient themselves to techniques and work area. Good analytical skills necessary for handling or radiology patients during administration of diagnostic testing. Must be able to appropriately assess the correct action to take during testing, while being cognizant of patient well-being. Must accurately monitor radiation exposure or potential for electronic shock, etc. Good interpersonal manner important during delivery of patient care in order to ensure harmonious provision of radiological diagnostic examination. Work requires manual dexterity for use of x-ray and other equipment and instruments. Light lifting of clinical supplies may be required. Adequate physical strength required for positioning of patients and equipment during examinations. The Radiologic Technologist will work under the supervision of the Director and/or designee. Performs routine and some special procedure imaging. Prepares patient for procedures. Assists Radiologists when needed. Prepares, operates and cares for the equipment being used. Develops/processes film/CDs when needed. Adheres to established radiology "standards of care". Applies principles of radiation protection, when appropriate to minimize exposure to patient, self and others. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and duties. Exercises professional judgment in performance of procedures. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: 1. Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing different and special requirements for each protocol including proper documentation on images and required body part questionnaires. 3. May be required to work holidays, overtime and/or day, evening and overnight shift coverage to help maintain adequate and safe coverage for the outpatient facility. 7. Maintains the cleanliness of all work areas, equipment and accessories. Reports all malfunctioning equipment to Bio Med or supervisor. 8. Processes images or prints CD's if needed. 9. Performs routine office tasks, such as answering phones, checking-in patients, obtaining previous reports/films. 10. Shows Radiologist films and calls reports to the attending physician and documents communications if necessary (wet readings). 11. Provides clinical instructions to students. 12. Will treat all people/staff in a professional and courteous manner, upholding the WPH's behavioral standards. 13. Introduces self and educates each patient or family member regarding the examination that is ordered. 14. Knowledgeable and skillful in providing care, based on age, physical and psychosocial needs of different patient populations including neonate/newborn, pediatric/adolescent, adults and geriatric groups. 15. Performs other related duties as required, attends staff meetings and in-services. 16. Coverage rotation to other outpatient sites. 17. Duties and hours may change according to the needs of the offsite practice. 18. Position is eligible for specialty certification compensation. Education & Experience Requirements * The Radiologic Technologist must be a graduate of an allied health education and accredited radiography school or hospital-based program. NY State DOH Licensure or Limited Permit required and certification through ARRT-RT and/or registered RT (R) * Continuing education requirements need to be upheld to meet the standards set forth by governing bodies. Current standards are 24 CE credits over a two-year period depending on year of birth. * DOH IV certification preferred or by completion of 6 month orientation. * BLS certification through the (AHA) American Heart Association is required or must be completed with 90 days of hire. * Radiation dose pledge for both Image Gently and Image Wisely through the American College of Radiology (ACR) will be performed during the orientation process and before end of probationary period.
