Role Summary
As a Story Desk Editor, you will be part of the Story Management Desk (SMD), a unified desk that replaces the legacy assignment and digital desks. The SMD model ensures a single, streamlined workflow for planning, producing and curating stories across platforms.
You will lead coverage during breaking news, shape daily story planning, and curate content across platforms. This position requires decisive editorial judgment, strong writing skills, and the ability to thrive under tight deadlines. You will collaborate with MSJs, producers and photojournalists to deliver accurate, relevant and engaging stories that serve the community.

Experience with Newsroom Automation Systems such as ENPS, Latakoo, Daybook and BitCentral. Coordinate with News department on live-shot needs. Scout live-shot locations for optimal signal strength, safety and shot composition.
In the field responsible for the operation of video and audio switchers, video and audio recorders, microwave equipment, monitors, test equipment, tools and all Electronic News Gathering, various digital equipment including IP and Cellular devices.
The ideal candidate must be able to excel in a fast-paced news environment, work well under pressure and be solution-oriented. The candidate must interact positively with technical and non-technical staff both independently and as a team member. Strong communication skills is a key component of this role.
Requirements:
Must have at least 2-4 years Broadcast Engineering experience with live news or talk shows. Understanding of live newscast and digital production. Strong people skills, team player. Good driving record. Must be able to work various hours and shifts.
Must possess a valid state driver's license and have an excellent driving record. Must be able to lift, run and carry heavy cable reels, television monitors, camera tripods and other equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to climb 10-15-foot ladders and work and operate (in the field) under pressure. Also, must have the ability to:
Control heavier than normal, full sized television remote live van, which requires much greater braking distance than normal
Raise a fifty-foot, telescoping mast, and be able to avoid obstructions at that height, such as power lines, especially at night
Lift, run, and carry heavy cable reels, television monitors, camera tripods and other equipment weighing up to 40 pounds for live shots
Climb 10-to-15-foot ladders, set up shots on rooftops
Bend, reach, and kneel to retrieve, place and store equipment in assigned places in ENG trucks
Vision corrected to 20/20 with no impairments. Sight is very important for driving an ENG/ SNG van. Much driving is required, must have excellent depth perception
Move swiftly at breaking news locations
Climb several flights of stairs carrying heavy equipment
Use both hands, have ability to balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach/work overhead to place and connect cables in buildings and on remote sites, and to transport and set up remote equipment
Work outside and on the roof of an ENG truck in all types of weather
Work and operate under pressure in a fast-paced news environment

Responsibilities:
Concept Development: Collaborate with other creative producers, regional marketing director and head of creative to develop creative concepts for commercials that align with brand messaging and target audience.
Scriptwriting: Write clear, engaging, and persuasive scripts for marketing commercials, ensuring that the messaging is on point and supports the client's objectives.
Video Production (Shooting): Plan and execute video shoots, including setting up lighting, audio, and camera equipment. Capture high-quality footage for marketing commercials across various platforms, including television, digital, and social media.
Video Editing: Edit raw footage into polished, professional commercials using video editing software. Ensure smooth transitions, appropriate pacing, and alignment with the brand's tone and objectives.
Field Collaboration: Work closely with regional marketing director, general manager and news director to gather feedback and refine creative concepts throughout the production process. Maintain effective communication and manage expectations.
Creative Direction: Manage the overall visual style of the commercials, including framing, composition, color grading, and motion graphics, ensuring the final product meets high production standards.
Post-Production: Add special effects, graphics, music, and voiceovers where needed to enhance the commercial's effectiveness. Ensure the final cut is optimized for various formats (TV, digital, social media).
Project Management: Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, managing timelines and deliverables. Work under tight deadlines to meet client needs and campaign launch dates.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in media production, film, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
3-5 years of experience in video production, including writing, shooting, and editing commercials or promotional content.
Proficiency with video production tools (e.g., cameras, lighting, sound equipment).
Advanced skills in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects).
Strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to create high-quality marketing commercials.
Experience with scriptwriting and storytelling for short-form content.
