To the surprise of a great many people, Bevan was appointed Minister of Health in Attlee’s government after a landslide election victory in 1945.
"The establishment of a comprehensive health service designed to secure improvement in the physical and mental health of the people of England and Wales and the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness” (1946 NHS Act).
The NHS was established on the 5th of July 1948.
Our organisation began in 2008, as a patient safety campaign with NHS health boards and trusts across Wales.
Improvement Cymru relaunched in November 2019.
