Northeast Community Clinic company history timeline

1971

In 1971, NECC opened its first clinic as one of Los Angeles County’s original “free-clinics” in Highland Park.

1986

People’s initiated one of Texas’ first HIV counseling and testing programs and, in 1986, provided leadership in establishing the first HIV Commission.

1989

In 1989, NECC began providing immunizations to children in the Northeast area of Los Angeles through a contract with the City of Los Angeles.

1994

In 1994, NECC was designated as a Federally Qualified Health Care (FQHC) Center by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), United States Department of Health and Human Services.

1995

In 1995, NECC became a safety net provider through the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program ensuring medical services to the high risk, indigent and uninsured population of Los Angeles County.

1997

In 1997, NECC expanded its medical services by providing mobile medical service to patients without access to primary care clinics through a State of California Department of Health Services grant.

2002

In 2002, NECC became a Strategic Partner of L.A. County; the initiative was designed to reduce the County’s operating cost by shifting patients from hospitals to community based clinics that would provide primary care and disease management services.

2003

In 2003, NECC acquired two additional sites located in the South Los Angeles cities of Bell and Huntington Park, bridging the gap in medical services left by Community Health Foundation of East Los Angeles.

2005

In 2005, continuing a period of remarkable growth, NECC added five health centers to its network.

2006

In 2006, to help meet the overwhelming demand for prenatal care at the Highland Park site NECC opened the Women’s Health Center (WHC). With the closing of Martin Luther King Jr.

2007

In 2007, NECC opened the Women’s Wellness Center (WWC), operated within California Family Care, to address an observed increase in prenatal patients seeking care in the Downtown community.

2008

The Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce presented People’s Community Clinic with the 2008 Non-Profit Leadership Award.

2009

In 2009, NECC received a federal grant support to expand access to care at the Wilmington locations.

2010

In 2010, NECC initiated a Geriatric Care Program in response to the rapidly aging population.

2011

In 2011, NECC, along with federal support acquired the new, larger facility signifying a commitment to the local community.

2012

In 2012, NECC received a generous grant from L.A. Care for the integration of Behavioral Mental Health with comprehensive care at NECC Hawthorne.

2013

In 2013, NECC acquired Harbor City Health Center from Providence Little Company of Mary, marking its 12th clinic.

2015

As well, Doctor Celia Neavel, People’s Director of Adolescent Health, received the 2015 Health Leader Award from the Texas Medical Association Foundation.

2016

People’s completed construction of the Northeast Austin clinic in the fall and opened for patients on April 12, 2016.

2017

Opening of Highland Park Clinic coming soon in September 2017.

Early 2017, NECC renovated Wilmington Family Health Center to accommodate its expansion to dental services as well as increased capacity for our medical services.

People’s Chief Executive Officer Regina Rogoff was awarded the Mission Capital’s 2017 Nonprofit Leadership Award.
