Retrieves oocytes, prepares sperm for oocyte insemination, performs insemination of oocytes, performs cultivation of embryos, performs micromanipulation techniques for assisted fertilization and assisted hatching, performs loading of catheters for embryo transfer. Prepares heparin media and culture dishes for each case. Job Responsibility + 1.Properly prepares glassware used for IVF media preparation, i.e., volumetric glass and pipettes, by detergent wash and heat sterilization; provides guidance and direction to trainees/embryologists to be ready to perform IVF procedures; screens new IVF patients for morphology and cryopreservation of sperm for emergency use on IVF retrieval day. 2.Ensures proper preparation of various media used for sperm washing and capacitation for in-vitro fertilization, embryo culture, embryo transfer, embryo freeze, and testicular sperm biopsy, sterilizing by using filtration, adjustment of osmolarity and pH; prepares sperm for In-Vitro Fertilization; demonstrates the ability to recover motile spermatozoa by 'swim-up' from semen specimens, their washing and preparation in media for in-vitro insemination; determines percentage of motile cells in swim-up and grades their progression and morphology relevant for fertility. 3.Correctly identifies and quantifies the presence of polymorphonuclear leukocytes. 4.Prepares human eggs for insemination and performs insemination in culture; retrieves human egg from follicular aspirates; ensures proper inspection of human eggs, correctly identifies oocyte's maturity for subsequent insemination; inseminates human eggs with appropriate number of spermatozoa for culture. 5.Performs micromanipulation; prepares microtools for macromanipulation. 6.Performs intracytoplasmic sperm injection; injects single sperm into an oocyte (egg) using high power microscope and micromanipulating equipment; performs assisted hatching; prepares microsurgical epididymal sperm aspirates; recovers motile sperm from specimens; performs intracytoplasmic sperm injection with sperm retrieved from epididymis. 7.Prepares testicular biopsy specimens; recovers motile sperm from testicular biopsies; performs intracytoplasmic sperm injection using sperm; performs sperm cryopreservation and thawing; prepares embryos for transfer; maintains care of embryo transfer cannulas. 8.Ensures proper loading of catheters for embryo transfer; maintains equipment and supply inventory for IVF; revise stock levels of laboratory supplies; coordinates ordering of supplies and equipment with laboratory director and laboratory secretary; coordinates service arrangements with engineering and maintenance; ensures maintenance records are kept on equipment. 9.Contacts outside companies for information on particular equipment, demonstration scheduling, and maintains contact with the research and technical divisions for information and/or problems with reagents; assists in retrieval and organization of data for presentations, publications or for laboratory review; organizes, evaluates and summarizes data through review of laboratory records or patient's charts. 10.Performs related duties as required.
