Oak Brook Park District company history timeline

1962

Brook Forest, Steeplechase, and Ginger Creek were subsequently developed with annexations in 1962 of Yorkshire Woods and Woodside Estates.

The park district was created in 1962, primarily to prevent any other park district from annexing the area for taxing purposes.

1975

In 1975 the village offices vacated the building to move into the adjacent, newly built Village Commons.

1977

A unique feature is the village-owned 270-acre Oak Brook Sports Core, purchased from Paul Butler in 1977 pursuant to a vote by the residents.

1982

Butler, whose accidental death, the day after his 89th birthday in 1982, proved a great loss to the village, had always been an enthusiastic supporter of excellence in all fields of athletics.

1995

Dorothy Dean in 1995, she provided a history of the Dean family and the property.

Dean took steps in 1995 to set up a life trust for her property with the assistant of the Conservation Foundation in which the Park District purchased the property.

2007

Dorothy Dean died Friday, December 28, 2007. “Dorothy was a beautiful person both inside and out,” said Brook McDonald, president and chief executive officer of the Conservation Foundation. “She was warm and caring, with a smile that could just light up the earth.”

2021

2021, but had already started training staff around new initiatives since a team building day in Nov.

Throughout 2021, Colucci said the Park District wanted to create inclusive celebrations each month that put a spotlight on Oak Brook’s diverse, collective community.
