Oak Hill Grounds company history timeline
Oak Hill’s front nine was designed by Wayne Stiles and opened on July 4, 1921, and the clubhouse opened in August of that year.
In the grand opening on July 30, 1927, Mass.
After deeding Oak Hill to the Berry Schools in 1927, Martha Berry began renovating the estate to modern and personal tastes with the home receiving extensive attention.
In the fall of 1928, the original nine holes were closed, and Ross rebuilt them.
After visiting Europe in the summer of 1930, Martha Berry became dismayed that the Oak Hill gardens lacked the drama of those she encountered abroad.
In 1934, utilizing a natural cliff on the edge of the existing gardens, Cridland transposed the terraced garden design Berry enjoyed in Pennsylvania to the landscape of Oak Hill in the form of a sunken garden planted with irises.
The property remained a working farm in the Watt family until 1935, when William’s son Egbert and his wife Grace sold it.
Washington, D.C. lawyer Edward Howrey and his wife Jane bought Oak Hill in 1935.
In 1935, Norwall Mowinkle, only surviving son of John Mowinkle, and his daughter Mary Mowinkle Johnson, formed the Oak Hill/Cedar Valley Pioneer Association, which was dedicated to the idea of preserving the history and heritage of the two neighboring communities.
Open there in 1935, he praised the course in a letter to the MGA president, and the MGA held the Mass.

Sarazen played in the event in 1936, but Harold “Jug” McSpaden captured the first of his four Mass.
In 1968, the Howreys sold the property to the Vienna Development Corporation, which built subdivision houses on the land and reduced the Oak Hill lot to less than three acres.
In 1975, he and his dad Cy won the club’s father and son championship.
The final expansion of twenty acres occurred around 1979.
In 1983 the City of Austin started annexing parts of Oak Hill.
After taking a couple of years off, he rejoined in 1983 and has been a member since.
In 1985 a new elementary school was opened in Oak Hill and was named in Patton’s honor.
In 1985 the Oak Hill Association of Neighborhoods was formed.

Friends of Oak Hill Cemetery was formed by a group of concerned citizens in the spring of 2017 in response to the deterioration of the grounds and monuments at Oak Hill.
In 2019, Friends of Oak Hill Cemetery was incorporated as a 501(c)3 organization in the state of Kansas.
