1972

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972

1999

In 1999, the General Assembly passed Public Law 221-1999, which created a performance-based accountability system.

2001

Historical school accountability data and results provided as far back as 2001-02, including Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAOs), Top-to-Bottom Rankings (TTB), Scorecards, and more.

2011

Beginning with the 2011-12 school year, as required by state law, all public schools received an annual School Report Card.

In 2011, the State Board adopted a rule to overhaul the accountability system.

2012

DPI’s Request for ESEA Flexibility was approved by the US Department of Education (USED) in July 2012.

In addition to the School Report Cards, the following year, in 2012-13, districts began receiving annual District Report Cards.

For the 2012 school year, the weights were distributed as follows: Performance = 60%, Graduation Rate = 30%, College & Career Readiness = 10%. These weights changed each year to increase the value and weight of College & Career Readiness and decrease the value of E/LA and Math.

2014

On October 29, 2014 the State Board filed a Notice of Intent to adopt a rule to establish the new categories or designations of school performance per IC 20-31-8-5.4.

2015

On December 10, 2015, President Obama signed into law a reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Previously referred to as No Child Left Behind (NCLB), the new law was reauthorized as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

Starting with the 2015-16 school year, private schools participating in the Private School Choice Program began receiving accountability report cards.

2018

The ESSA accountability system scores will first be reported in the 2018-19 school year.
