The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to direct or provide nursing care. The Registered Nurse provides guidance to other members of the surgical nursing unit; and may be authorized, in the absence of the Charge Nurse, to make decisions affecting the nursing unit. In addition, the Registered Nurse will perform other duties as assigned. Schedule: -.6 FTE - 24 Hours per Week - PM/NOC Shift -Every 3rd Weekend 12-Hour Night Shift -2 Holidays Per Year 12-Hour Night Shift Essential Functions: Assessment: • Completes a thorough assessment of patients as well as surgical specific assessment based on need and utilizes critical thinking skills to direct appropriate care and treatments. Reassesses patients at appropriate intervals to ensure desired outcome is achieved • Completes and documents assessments in a thorough and accurate manner as defined by unit policy • Assesses the need for patient and family instruction and provides necessary education Planning: • Initiates, develops, and documents the patient plan of care based on patient assessment and surgical diagnosis/procedure. Individualizes the patient plan of care as necessary and evaluates and adjusts for realistic outcome dates • Interacts with other disciplines as needed to determine plan of care and to create a discharge plan • Reviews and updates plan of care minimally every 24 hours Implementation: • Provides safe and comprehensive nursing care according to state regulations, hospital policy and procedure and Joint Commission standards • Establish care priorities based on patient problems; communicate with staff and new employees of patient problems/concerns/changes in condition.
