Expected pay for this position is $18.98 - $22.34/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.
Overview
This pharmacy technician will be supporting pharmacy needs for the OSF Home Care Pharmacy in Peoria, IL
This technician will work Monday-Friday schedule that will consist of an 8 hour shift. Must be available and flexible with being part of on call rotation every 11 weeks working Friday evening and Saturday. On call holiday rotation.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Certified Pharmacy Technician I assists pharmacists in ensuring medications are promptly, accurately and safely dispensed, delivered, charged and credited. Prepares and labels medications to match orders. Maintains records related to drug use and charges. This position requires the Technician to be proficient in both dispensing oral medications and in preparation of I.V. solutions. Duties may vary by assigned area or shift. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served, including neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric. Work involves standing, lifting and walking continually while in the process of performing duties.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School/GED
Licenses/Certifications: PHTC2 - Pharmacy Tech Certification (tracked by HR) Pharmacy TechnicianCertification (CPhT) validated by PTCB or National Healthcareer Certification
Experience: At least 18 years of age Other skills/knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: 1 year pharmacy.
Demonstrates knowledge of pharmaceutical and medical terminology.
Other requirements/information: Demonstrates ability to perform and apply arithmetic calculations Intermediate computer skills.

Job Title: Pharmacy Technician II Reports to: Pharmacy Technician and Prior Authorization Manager Department:Woonsocket Medical FLSA Status:Non-Exempt Job Grade: 5 General Responsibilities: The Pharmacy Technician II works collaboratively as part of the interprofessional clinical care team which includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, nurse care managers, behavioral health providers, a clinical pharmacist, and other clinical staff. The Pharmacy Technician II works independently in a remote/office setting under the direct supervision of the clinical pharmacist and Pharmacy technician & prior authorization manager to determine the appropriateness of prescription refill requests using the electronic medical record and will then authorize appropriate requests from pharmacies using our protocol and provider preferences. The Pharmacy Technician II will also assist other support staff in completing prior authorization requests on behalf of the providers at Thundermist Health Center. The Pharmacy Technician II will act as a liaison between providers and insurance companies and pharmacies to ensure our patients receive their medications in a timely manner at their respective pharmacies

* Licensed by the state of Rhode Island as a Pharmacy Technician II. * Have passed the Pharmacy TechnicianCertification Examination (PTCE) or the Institute for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians "ExCPT" examination
* Minimum 3 years as a pharmacy technician II strongly preferred.
* Previous involvement in prior authorization management and medication refill requests
* Maintain certification with PTCB or EXCPT to renew license (complete CEs etc.)
* Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Extensive knowledge of the refill renewal process and of insurance company prior authorization processes (from a pharmacy perspective)
* Knowledge of basic medical terminology and prescription sig codes • Basic understanding of what common medications for (heart, blood pressure, mood, etc.)
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience communicating with providers is strongly preferred • Proficiency in using database information systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Previous experience with electronic medical records, especially eClinicalWorks, preferred but not required.

Post-secondary training in Medical Assistant Program/Professional School
Bi-lingual in English and Spanish
1-year experience working with prior authorizations/referrals

Significant Job Functions:

The Pharmacy Technician:
Dispenses medication to fill prescription requests for inpatient Unit Dose Cassettes and SRAlab sites of care.

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician supports the operations of a specialty pharmacy by assisting the pharmacist with the preparation, processing, and dispensing of specialty medications (e.g. hepatitis C, HIV). Pay Rate: $21 an hour
Pharmacy Shifts:
Every other weekend: Saturday and Sunday, 7am - 3pm

What You Will Do
Ensures procurement and distribution of drug orders.
Identifies and fills replacement medications on emergency crash carts, OR carts, and floor stock accurately.
Prepares sterile products (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) accurately.
Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately.
Rotates stock to ensure use before the expiration date.
Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately.
Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
What You Will Need
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Six months of pharmacy intern or pharmacy technician experience preferably in a hospital setting.
Possess current pharmacy intern or pharmacy technician license in the State of Illinois.
Successful completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician training course is preferred.

Education

Certification:
Certified by the Pharmacy TechnicianCertification Board (PTCB)
Experience:
A minimum of one year of recent, relevant, related experience
Language Proficiency:
Fluency in Spanish is highly desired but not required
