As an ER Travel Nurse, you should be prepared to perform the following tasks:

ER Travel Nurses should be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as bend, lean and stoop without difficulty. RNs should be able to easily lift 20 pounds. Moving or lifting of patients may require lifting of up to 50 pounds at times. Because of the fast-paced environment, Emergency Room RNs must possess good skills for coping with stress and be able to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
In this position you will perform responsible fire suppression, rescue, and incident response activities on an assigned shift in the fire department. Firefighters participate in the operations of fire suppression, rescue, incident response, and daily maintenance activities at the fire station.
These activities involve firefighting, performing emergency medical service response, facility and equipment maintenance, participation in all-hazard incident response as called-upon and multidiscipline cognitive and physical training. Work requires that the employee stay abreast of state-of-the-art fire suppression and rescue procedures, techniques, and equipment and requires the employee to incorporate the necessary changes into in-service training. Ability to make effective decisions under pressure is required in all aspects of emergency response work.
The employee is subject to the hazards associated with incident response work including working in inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold temperatures, loud noise, vibration, moving parts, high heat, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, wearing respirators, and working in close quarters. The employee is also subject to OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens.
Work is performed under regular supervision of the assigned station's Company Officer and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and written reports concerning the quality and effectiveness of work completed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF A FIREFIGHTER:
Respond to fire alarms and participates in fire suppression activities; participates in operations level hazardous materials incident mitigation; responds to emergency medical calls and provides EMT at the basic level; responds to and provides technical rescue services.
Participates in on-going training activities to increase and maintain skill levels as emergency responder.
Inspects station and equipment for proper appearance and condition.
Performs maintenance and cleaning of fire apparatus, equipment, station building, and related facilities.
Inspects, cleans, and maintains fire hydrants and hoses, tests proper operation and maintains maintenance records.
Assists with the preparation of fire reports; participates in special projects as required.
Conducts pre-incident surveys.
Conducts station tours; makes fire prevention talks at the station and in schools and other settings.
Obtains the required amount of training hours as mandated by the department.
Assists the fire engineer with apparatus checks, ensuring that the apparatus is in a state of readiness.
Works to ensure that the station and grounds are kept clean and presentable.
Follows departmental guidelines related to the maintenance of apparatus, equipment and facilities.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED, at least 1 year of fire service experience for graduate of an approved fire academy.
Possess IFSAC/Pro-Board or approved certifications of completion for or have reciprocity documentation for:
* Firefighter II
* NCOEMS EMT-Basic
* Hazardous Materials Operations Level I
* NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800
* Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.

HIRING PROCESS TIMELINE:

Written Test, Agility Test and 1st round of panel interviews: February 11-12, 2026
Testing will occur at the Wake Fire Training Center. There will be two sessions each day with one session at 9 am with the written test followed by the agility test as each person finishes the written test and the second session will be at 1 pm with the written test followed by the agility test as each person finishes the written test. The applicant must pass the written test with a 70% score or better to move onto the agility test. Each test will be graded after completion. More information will be sent to those invited to the written and agility testing.
Senior Firefighter Pumping Practical Exercise: Week of February 23, 2026. Exact dates, times and location to be determined.
2nd Round of Panel Interviews (IF NEEDED): Week of March 2, 2026. Exact dates, times and location to be determined.

You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and will perform as a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to support plasma center operations.

About the role:

You will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, management of donor adverse events, review of laboratory test results, and donor notification of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager as applicable) for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. The Medical Support Specialist will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment. The Medical Support Specialist follows guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs and provides center level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS).
How you will contribute
* You will determine donor eligibility; to include, proper management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
* You will evaluate donor reaction(s), which occurs at the facility as outlined in the SOPs. Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
* You will refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
* You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
* You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
* You can be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.

General Description
An employee in this class performs professional advanced life support work in operating an approved mobile medical unit, rescuing victims and performing pre-hospital advanced life support including the administration of life sustaining treatment to patients on-site and while enroute to hospital. Work involves responding to the scene of an emergent and non-emergent call, applying necessary medical treatment to the sick or injured persons, and transporting persons to a medical facility.
The employee serves as a member of an ambulance crew and is responsible for the medical care administered to the patient. This position is differentiated from an Emergency Medical Technician of other certification levels by the additional requirements but not limited to performing defibrillation and Cardioversion, the application of 12-lead ECG and manual interpretation, using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), decompression of a tension pneumothorax by use of a needle decompression needle, perfuming cricothyrotomy for relief of upper airway obstructions, and performing gastric suctioning.
The employee is also responsible for maintaining supplies, performing janitorial duties at the stations, and performing miscellaneous office duties. Work is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extremes in temperatures, noises, and vibrations, hazards associated with emergency medical work including exposures to fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilations, and oils. Because of the nature of work, the employee is exposed to human blood and is subject to the OSHA requirements on Blood Borne pathogens. The employee is exposed to normal hazards of emergency rescue work, including risk of exposure to infectious diseases. Employees report to a shift supervisor and are evaluated through conferences, observations, discussion of procedures at emergency scenes, and public feedback.
