Parsons International Ltd company history timeline

1995

The firm strengthened its holding in 1995 by acquiring Gilbert/Commonwealth Inc., a company involved in power plant design and nuclear facility decommissioning.

1996

The strategy also included the creation of a new global business development unit designed to increase Parsons' international revenues, which by 1996 accounted for just 30 percent of overall revenues.

1996: Chairman and CEO Leonard J. Pieroni dies in a plane crash in Croatia.

1996 Preserved for Centuries In honor of its centennial, Parsons establishes the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Archives Center (later renamed the New School Archives).

1997

1997 Parsons Scholars Advances Access Parsons promotes diversity in design education by establishing Parsons Scholars, a three-year program that provides NYC high schoolers with college prep and creative skills.

1998

Since 1998, the Design Workshop has provided pro bono design-build services to nonprofit clients.

1998 Built for Good The Design Workshop, Parson’s signature design-build program, is launched with a student project to renovate New School interiors.

2002

Chicago: May 2002-SOLD OUT tour

In 2002 Worley became a publicly listed company on the Australian Stock Exchange leading to a period of acquisitions of increasing magnitude around the globe, including companies in Canada, Oman, and China.

2004

Parsons was awarded a contract for a $243 million project to build 150 health care centers in Iraq in March 2004.

2005

2005 New Name, New Era Parsons is renamed Parsons The New School for Design, signaling the full union with its parent university.

2006

By March 2006, $186 million had been spent, with six centers complete and accepted by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), 135 centers only partly complete, and one reassigned to another contractor.

2006 Design, Environmentalism, and Action The Tishman Environment and Design Center is established at The New School under the leadership of Parsons faculty member Joel Towers.

2007

In November 2007, WorleyParsons’ capability in the nuclear consulting and analysis segment of the international nuclear industry was complemented with the acquisition of Polestar as well as UniField Engineering with the aim to expand the power business in the USA further.

2008

In 2008, she was awarded the Women's Achievement in Lifetime of Excellence from Central Washington University.

2008 Parsons Unites on Fifth Avenue Parsons’ buildings at Fifth Avenue and 13th Street are combined to create the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center (SJDC), named for its donor.

2009

In 2009, the office booked a fundraising tour with the band Friends of Emmet (F.O.E.). The purpose of the tour was to raise awareness and erase the stigma associated with suicide.

In 2009 WorleyParsons acquired the United Kingdom assets of Day & Zimmermann to form the hub of WorleyParsons’ UK Improve business.

2009 Alums Design for the First Lady First Lady Michelle Obama wears a design by Parsons alum Jason Wu to the first inaugural ball.

2010

In 2010 WorleyParsons acquired the high end business advisory services company, Evans & Peck.

2010 Merging Design with Strategy MFA Transdisciplinary Design, MA Fashion Studies, and MFA Fashion Design and Society programs launch, marking Parsons’ leadership in emerging fields.

2011

Parsons and Milano students design a passive solar home that wins the United States Department of Energy's 2011 Solar Decathlon award for affordability and lighting.

2012

In 2012, WorleyParsons purchased a 50% share in a joint venture company with Cergetec in Canada.

2013

In 2013, it acquired Bergen Group Rosenberg AS and TWP Holdings (Proprietary) Limited.”

2013 Parsons Paris Opens a New Chapter Parsons Paris is launched as a reinvigorated university hub, offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

2014

2014 Investing in a Green Future The University Center — the country's largest LEED Gold Certified urban university building — opens on 14th Street and Fifth Avenue, uniting the campus.

2015

· ENR 2015 Top 500 Design Firms – Parsons ranked #10 overall for Top 500 Design Firms.

2015 Access to Design Education Parsons students, faculty, and alumni participate in First Lady Michelle Obama’s fashion education workshop, which aimed to encourage young people to consider careers in design.

2015 Donna Karan Launches DOT Center In partnership with Donna Karan, Parsons founds the Design, Organization, Training (DOT) Center, a vocational hub for Haiti’s artisan community.

2016

· ENR 2016 Top 500 Design Firms – Parsons ranked #10 overall for Top 500 Design Firms.

2016 Driving Change with Data MS Data Visualization students partner with the UN Development Programme on Africa to provide policymakers with data-driven tools for advancing gender-related justice.

2016 A Place for Making Anew Parsons opens the 26,000-square-foot Making Center, equipped with traditional and cutting-edge tools, including CNC routers, 3D printers, 3D knitting machines, digital jacquard looms, state-of-the art metal milling machinery, printing facilities, and a ceramics lab.

2019

2019 Managing the Business of Fashion New School Board of Trustees Chair Joseph Gromek gives $8.5 million to establish The Joseph and Gail Gromek Institute for Fashion Business, which supports students aiming to become industry leaders.
